Q: How do I STOP auto-till tags when saving documents?

Please!  I'm asking again.  Please STOP auto-filling my tags as I try to save documents.  You can't spell.  You can't read my mind.  You don't know what you're doing.  You're unwanted.  You get in the way.  You aggravate.  You slow me down.  You make my typing inaccurate.  Correcting your stupid, invasive errors is maddening, a waste of time, and it's desperately NOT wanted.  I'm tired of FIGHTING with my beloved computer!!!

I know you can allow customers to intelligently and efficiently create their own relevant tags.  I've seen it done.  I've lived it.  I've worked.  I enjoyed it before the lunacy you call a Mavericks "UPgrade."  There's little about Mavericks that has upped your value, Apple.

I know how to type.   PLEASE, for God's sake, let me do it!!!

Yes, Keriah, I see something exactly like your example.  It's the same list of gibberish I've been getting all along.  Sorry I'm not including a screenshot.  I haven't used screenshots in years and don't find the means to do so now.

    Thank you.

No, Ralph Johns, you have not all tried to communicate.  You've opted instead for insults and the insistence I download your own "junk" software.  I choose neither.

You're welcome.  And thank you for continuing with this.  (Screen shots could be helpful -- and I could tell you rather easily how to get one -- but not critical to the flow now.)

    Next Step:

In a new (test) Pages doc -- one that has NO tag values associated with it -- do a Save (Save As) and, in that dialog window, tab twice so that your cursor is in the empty Tags field.  (This is the same first series of actions as in the last step.)

Now, with your cursor in the empty Tags field, slowly type "c" then "a" then "t" (without the quotes -- just those 3 letters) -- and stop typing.

Do you see something like this? -- i.e., you will see the 3 letters you typed (not highlighted) and then some trailing letters, highlighted, and a list of items that begin with "cat" in the "Where:" list below.

Just note your results and then cancel out (do NOT continue with the Save/Save As).

Lurking? I've been here since page 1.

However, I realize my attempt to goad happy into posting some useful response won't work as he can easily just create a bunch of gibberish tags.

Yes, keriah, I get exactly the results you've replicated.  Is there a way to stop the auto-complete process?

We're working on that -- a step at a time.  (And, thanks for joining me in "tuning out" the surrounding noise that's trying to distract our dialog.)

    Next Step:

In a new (test) Pages doc -- one that has NO tag values associated with it -- do a Save (Save As) and, in that dialog window, tab twice so that your cursor is in the empty Tags field.  Now, with your cursor in the empty Tags field, slowly type "c" then "a" then "t" (without the quotes -- just those 3 letters) -- and stop typing.  (This is the same series of actions as in the previous two steps.)

This is where we left off.  You confirmed that, after the "c-a-t" that you'd typed, you do see (a) some additional letters filled in AHEAD OF YOUR CURSOR (and shaded), in the Tags line, and (b) in the Where list, some suggested values (which may be a mix of gibberish and some perhaps useful values from before).

Regardless, ignore whatever has been placed ahead of your cursor on the Tags line and continue to type slowly -- noting what values appear/disappear in both the Tags line and the Where line as you type each letter.

For this step we need to be typing a value that is NOT currently used in any of your tags.  Let's try "catalystproof" as a new value.  (Hopefully, that is a unique tag value but, if not, please make up a value that does not exist on your system, as a real or a gibberish value.)

Continuing on:  after the initial "c-a-t" you've typed (as in the last step), keep typing "a-l-y-s-t-p-r-o-o-f", one letter at a time, and eventually all the items in the Where list (all the gibberish and valid values) will disappear from view.  Do you see that happening?

After you have completely typed "catalystproof" in the Tags line, you should be left with only this -- (a) your typed value in the tags line (with no shading and your cursor at the end of your typing, and (b) an offer to "Create" this new value in the Where" line.  Is this what you see?

All the trouble that keriah went through for you, and that's how you respond?

Won't even trouble yourself to post the screenshot (⌘⇧4) that keriah requested of you?

Not a suprise, I told keriah that you only want the ability to turn off auto-complete (which is not possible).

Why did you string keriah along when you all you will settle for is stoping the auto-complete process (which is not possible)
