May 29, 2014 7:00 AM in response to nl220by bobaloolink,I now have the exact same problem as of last night. I installed the new version of iTunes and now Windows DEP crashes iTunes. I found information on how to exempt certain programs and tried to make iTunes.exe excempt from DEP but Microsoft's app said nope, it will not let iTunes.exe be excempt from DEP. I found some message on line saying to deleted two hidden iTunes config files and reboot, and that didn't help either. Either Apple has done something seriously wrong here, or else Microsoft is deliberately trying to keep iTunes from working. I suspect Apple is the culprit here.
Hey, Apple - are you working on a fix for this? What am I supposed to do? How do I back off to the prior version of iTunes that worked fine?

May 29, 2014 12:45 PM in response to bobaloolinkby lmacri,I had a similar problem on 32-bit Vista after I updated to iTunes v. 11.2.2. Windows DEP kept closing iTunes - and each time I manually closed iTunes my computer would freeze for about 30 seconds and I would get a Windows BEX error (iTunes stopped working) as shown below.
I removed and reinstalled all iTunes components exactly as described in turringtest2's user tip titled Troubleshooting Issues With iTunes for Windows Updates (including right-clicking on the installer and choosing "Run as Administrator") and that seems to have solved the problem. I've only tested the reinstalled program for a few hours so I'll post back if the problem reoccurs.
Here's the text of the Windows error I was seeing before the reinstall:

May 30, 2014 5:06 AM in response to lmacriby lmacri,Sorry, I have to report that my previous suggestion to remove and reinstalll all iTunes v. 11.2.2 components didn't completely solve the problem.
I'm not seeing any shutdowns when iTunes is open and I'm able to synch my iPod and and download songs from the store, but something seems to be wrong with the way iTunes is shutting down when I close the program. When I close the GUI my computer freezes for about 30 seconds and I can see my hard drive thrashing, followed by a DEP pop-up in my system tray stating: iTunes closed. To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes. That DEP message always generates the same Windows error (event name BEX) shown in my previous post.
I monitored my iTunes shutdown with Process Explorer and it looks like the iTunes.exe process isn't shutting down correctly. For the 30 seconds that my computer hangs after the close the program I can see the notation "Suspended" in the CPU usage column of Process Explorer until DEP finally kills the process.

Jun 8, 2014 10:46 AM in response to nl220by Vain.3805,I fixed it on my computer. Not sure which of the steps I did fixed it so I will list all of them.
I wasn't getting the error until I did the following (to prevent it from just crashing on logging into the iTunes Store)
https://discussions.apple.com/message/23987910#23987910
I added C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support; to the system variables PATH (depending on your operating system, your file path will be different). How to do that has been outlined in the above linked article.
This now caused DEP to freak out whenever I logged into the store and close iTunes. Adding iTunes to the DEP filter didn't solve the problem. So I removed all the saved system settings for iTunes and ran Apple Software Update. I also went to the DEP and added every .exe I could find in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple to the exceptions list (again, depending on your OS the file path may be different.)
To remove the saved system settings for iTunes you can find those in C:\Documents and Settings (for Win XP) or C:\Users (for Win 8). Find a folder named AppData or Application data under various user names and remove any Apple related files you can. I had one .log file that couldn't be deleted, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Jun 29, 2014 3:05 PM in response to Vain.3805by ArgleBarrrgle,Thanks for the solution but I'm not comfortable allowing iTunes to do things that may affect my system.
I waited a really long time to install this update because I've had issues in the past and of course when I finally install it, I am served a heaping pile of hot failure.
I would like to revert to the previous version and will search for how to do that now but I know in the past when I attempted it, my library was ruined.
Apple, please update your software to prevent this error or provide instructions to remove the offending part of iTunes. I will not turn of DEP execution for iTunes.
Also, this has nothing to do with Dell. I'm running Windows Vista 64bit on an Acer laptop.iTunes version 11.2.2.3
Thank you.

Jun 30, 2014 7:25 AM in response to ArgleBarrrgleby lmacri,Hi ArgleBarrrgle:
You might want to follow Bigestted's thread here titled Windows Vista problem reports after latest iTunes 11.2 update if your Vista computer generates a data execution prevention (DEP) error when you close iTunes v. 11.2.2.3. The last update we received from Bigestted on 19-Jun-2014 is that this issue has been escalated to Apple tech support in the US for investigation.
There are instructions for downgrading iTunes in turingtest2's support article here titled Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates (scroll down to the section titled Further Information). As you suspected, those instructions include the following warning:
"The 11.1.5 to 11.2 update for example also modified the database. In order to roll back to an older version of iTunes when this has happened you will also need to restore the pre-update library as described here."

Jun 30, 2014 9:23 PM in response to lmacriby ArgleBarrrgle,Thanks Imacri, I was annoyed it wasnt working and hadn't considered that I hadn't modified my library after the update.
Because I hadn't modified my library, the restore was relatively painless.
using the links you provided, i did the following:
1. Renamed itunes library to itunes library (corrupt)
2. Copied the backup itunes created just before the update to the itunes folder and renamed it to itunes library (using these instructions: Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash
3. Used system restore to revert to itunes 11.1.5.5. Note: itunes didnt load properly - it gave a message stating something was missing. I ran the repair option from add/remove programs to fix this.
I have disabled updates for iTunes and will happily use 11.1.5.5 as long as I can.
I don't see an option to mark your response as having solved my problem but I did 'like' it.

Jul 1, 2014 7:11 AM in response to ArgleBarrrgleby lmacri,Hi ArgleBarrrgle:
Glad to hear your downgrade to iTunes v. 11.1.5 was successful. For future reference, if you ever need an older iTunes installer and can't find it at the OldApps.com site recommended by turingtest2 in his instructions here for installing previous versions of iTunes, the FileHippo.com site also has links to older versions (here for 32-bit iTunes; here for 64-bit iTunes).
I checked the security advisories for iTunes on the Secunia website here and there have been no important security updates for iTunes since 23-Oct-2013 (SA55442 for iTunes for Windows, patched in v. 11.1.4; note that SA58444 only applies to iTunes for Mac OS X) so your downgrade to 11.1.5 shouldn't expose your system to any security risks.
