May 19, 2014 2:57 PM in response to dmorris145by billatyow,To me, this is more like a marketing decision ( not yet to fix it ).

May 19, 2014 3:01 PM in response to dmorris145by zroger73,A scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation comes to mind where Clark Griswold is trying to figure out why the Christmas lights aren't working...until Ellen flips on the light switch in the basement...then turns it off again.
(With stereo audio instead of DD 5.1, of course.)

May 19, 2014 3:12 PM in response to dmorris145by matiasnavarro,It seems that they are testing, but honestly, if it worked w/o an Apple TV update for a while, I do believe that is Netflix the responsible of being fixed

Yet people can downgrade to earlier Apple TV firmware and it works again.
Not claiming to know the answer - but if earlier Apple TV firmware can get 5.1 it exonerates Netflix - at least a little

May 20, 2014 11:31 AM in response to dmorris145by Dr Zook,No, not for me either today. And now Netflix has removed the DD sign om their content.
I agre with matiasnavarrothat they are testing and that it is Netflix who is responsible for the problems.

May 20, 2014 12:21 PM in response to peter aagaardby RalphRS,I believe that this is the best evidence we have seen for a radically new Apple TV. All the engineers are on a sprint to get the new software ready for WWDC and don't want to waste time fixing an obsolete piece of software (for the current generation).

May 20, 2014 12:30 PM in response to RalphRSby dmorris145,Except that they did issue a fix with last update. Then after a few days it stopped working again. This is a Netflix problem that has become a user problem.

May 20, 2014 2:32 PM in response to iphone_travellerby Goldenadder,Thanks. Downgrading to 5.3 resolved the issue and I get DD sound again, but why did Netflix decide to remove the DD logo from all movies even though its still in DD sound?

May 21, 2014 6:06 AM in response to Goldenadderby Belo83,might be a trademark thing that is costing them money. Netflix is an interesting company. I dumped them when they decided to seperate their mail/streaming services. Came back recently to watch tv shows that I always wanted to. But their business model seems to not focus much on enthusiasts but just the average joe. Most don't care about DD because their systems do not support it or take advantage of it. Instead they're concerned (and rightfully so) with getting the right bandwith through ISPs to stream.
Many more people will notice 1080p vs 480 and 780 over a slow net connection than they will dolby digital. In fact they even switched to dd+ to help save some bandwith and as a result a lot of legacy recievers can no longer stream the audio at all.
No excuse in my opinion, but not surprising to see it.

May 21, 2014 6:30 AM in response to Belo83by matiasnavarro,All the thread long has been pointed that the DD 5.1 Netflix issue is only with Apple TV running with 6.1.x software revision, I called yesterday with Netflix and they told me that they will fix the issue SOON coordinated with Apple engineering, I hope so.
There's a remarkable difference the movie experience with DD 5.1!

May 21, 2014 10:33 AM in response to matiasnavarroby Belo83,we will never really know who isn't playing nice. I agreee that my tv and ps4 play netflix just fine, however we do not know if netflix did something to their system to mess with what apple had previously verified to work.

Apparently it's Apple not playing nice.
I wouldn't place my full trust in anything any company's support call center says, including Apple's. Their job is to get rid of the caller ASAP. In cases where they don't have an answer they make one up to satisfy the calling party. In the thread your link references the Netflix rep starts out by saying "This is the first time I've heard of this." Where have we heard this before? Oh yes, from Apple's call center reps too. Just saying, call centers are designed to process as many support requests as possible on the shortest period of time. Call center reps are evaluated on how much time they spend with each customer, not whether they solve that customer's problem. I know a few former call center people so trust me on this one.
The fact that someone (Apple or Netflix or both) has removed all references to DD 5.1 on the AppleTV Netflix app is significant. It could mean a fix is not coming any time soon. And it provides a cover screen for call center reps. DD 5.1? What DD 5.1? We don't have any DD 5.1. Instead of the smoke screen I wish we could get a straight answer from both companies.
