May 16, 2014 3:10 PM in response to kratounaby Zak Adelman,Every Dell monitor has adjustments somewhere, I recommend looking at your instrution booklet in case they are just on an invisible touch panel like mine.. or bottom, or back. The buttons allow brightness and contrast adjustments; it may be useful in the future.
That said, downgrading is probably your (really everyone's) best bet when this problem cops up since hardware sharpness causes other issues that effect dealing with graphics and photos. I use Illustrator so I have issues with line accuracy (it adds a white line around lines to sharpen them and causes banding) when sharpness is on. I will give this a week and if there is no update I will follow your lead and downgrade s well. I am using my 15" built-in monitor (retina MBP) to check when I think I am done with part of a graphic's linework or gradient.

May 16, 2014 7:00 PM in response to Zak Adelmanby Zak Adelman,I tried contacting Apple Care and tried reinstalling 10.9.3, installing 10.9.3 from scratch, resetting PRAM, resetting SMC and none of them fixed the issue so don't bother trying those.
The issue was esceletad to the department that would handle the update to support these screen resolutions.

Let's hope a fix is made soon so we can move to 10.9.3.

I think this goes to prove very little testing was done prior to release. This is what happens when a new new OS is "free". Apple adopts the Microsoft approach to testing - very minimal if any! Throw it out there, let the public find the bugs and report them, then fix them. So it's:
1) free of charge
2) free of beta testing
3) tested for free
Oh boy, is this what the future holds for our once stable and trusted operating system? I shudder to think.

I have a Dell U2413. Prior to Mac OS X 10.9.3 I noticed a strange difference between using this monitor with a Windows-based PC and my Mac.
On my Mac the display looked perfectly sharp with the Dell built-in-display sharpness setting set to 0. i.e. My mac was talking to the monitor in a way that meant the image was already sharp at the sharpness setting 0. There was no option to soften the image because you cannot go below 0. Any sharper and it looked stupid!
On my Windows machine (with official drivers installed) the display looked horribly blurry at a built-in-display sharpness setting set to 0. But when the sharpness was increased to say 70 it looked very good. This allows the owner to adjust the sharpness to their own preference.
Since upgrading to 10.9.3 on my Mac my display suddenly appeared blurry. I have since discovered that my display should be set somewhere around the 70 mark to get a sharp image.
I imagine along with the new 4K display support Apple have changed the way the OS talks to the display over displayport to work like the Windows counterpart (and possibly more like the display manufacturer intended).
This certainly makes it more convenient for me when I switch between my home Mac and my work PC!

Can someone else confirm setting it to ~70 is solving the blurr issue with 10.9.3 ?

May 17, 2014 1:54 PM in response to adriangpby Zak Adelman,Unfortunately hardware sharpen is is not ideal and won't work for me in the long run. The method adds artefacts to make things look sharper. These artefacts can cause issues when dealing with vector graphics, photos, and gradients(causes banding sometimes).

Go to system preferences ----> Displays-----> color tab run a new calibration , restart then go to the settings again and choose the old calibration and remove the new one

Two days traying to solve this problem. Now I used Time Machine and went back to 10.9.2. This solved the problem!

May 22, 2014 5:43 AM in response to kratounaby Gary_R,Kratouna, hover your finger about the light just above the power button. I had the same problem with my U2713H this morning, and adjusting the sharpness fixed it.

It is really impossible to read text comfortable on DELL u2713hm connected to MBP 15" retina late 2013 (10.9.3) with mini display port. I cannot go back to previous system.
Apple please fix this: it was perfect on 10.9.2.

do you having user problems? then adjust your monitors sharpness (how to adjust jour monitors sharpness is a turn you will get with your monitors onscreeen-menu) ... or switch back to 10.9.2. to go back to 10.9.2 you have to search for a (apple)-consultant - yes! it will cost you some amount of dollars/euros/orwhatcurrancy to fix it - ask him ... it is possilble!
i would estimate about 2.5 hours appending upon the data to transfer ....
it is your decision (or what do you think these consultants could bring back your productivity !?)

ist it urgent .... you are a productive user!?
today i was asked about the decision to make a update of the system ... i really was in a "splitscreen" and told my customer: please wait 3-4 weeks to make it ... otherwise ask me ( i am a consultant without apple´s consultant network - i dont want to be a "slave of a system" ) directly via mail or phone if you could update without any problems.
this to testify is the only way to become to a solution of your question ...
you need to have a apple/osx professional - right?
go get him.

Mirroring means that both your internal display and the external display will have the same image (mirrored!), consequently, both will show the same resolution.
The actual resolution is determined by the external display.
