May 22, 2014 5:26 AM in response to OxfordFergyby Limnos,★HelpfulThere are various tools you can try (search online) but the best one is probably you. I rarely get duplicates created in the normal course of using iTunes so you should see what you are doing to cause this. As for missing artwork, use iTunes to fetch artwork for files you have added, or if there isn't any in the Store do a search on the Internet for artwork you can copy and paste.

May 22, 2014 5:46 AM in response to Limnosby OxfordFergy, this has definitely helped - thank you. i have tried itunes but still have lots of gaps which i dont understand. I have copied my itunes library from and old mac to a new one. and in doing so I have lots of duplicates (maybe connected/maybe not) and artwork missing.
can you explain why I have the same tracks showing in my library - one in the cloud and one in the library ?
thanks again

May 22, 2014 10:16 AM in response to OxfordFergyby turingtest2,Under iTunes > Preferences > Store untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases. Close iTunes, reopen. The clould duplicates should be gone. You should be able to renable that option, if you wish, without getting duplicates.

May 22, 2014 11:19 AM in response to OxfordFergyby Limnos,About the missing artwork, you do not say how you copied from computer to computer. Normally nothing should be lost or duplicated in copying. Many people copy incorrectly though and run into problems. How to do it correctly:
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
