peachy MBP

Q: TS4088 ....passed the 3 year limit

Hi guys.  I know some of the guys here have had theirs replaced even after the 3 yrs Apple has given to replace the logic board.  What did you do to get Apple to own up to their mistake?  Mine is 2 months over their 3 yrs and they're NOT covering it.

Ideally, what Apple should really do is write an email to all that had bought the 2010 MBP 6,2 and inform them of their production mess-up.  I've registered my machine so why can't they have informed me.  I wouldn't have thought it may have been just a software issue that an update will eventually resolve.  They knew it was going to fail; i think it would have been fair to communicate that to the buyers even after the fact.

I've had this same issue. Intermittent black screen with keyboard still illuminated, requiring a hard reset for any response. I then updated to mavericks and was receiving random kernel panics. I was able to recreate the issue by opening up several large programs (Word, Itunes, Chrome, Safari, etc.) and then accessing mission control through hot corners. I brought my MBP to the Genius Bar twice. The first time I was told it was a software issue and reinstalled my OS. The second time they came to the conclusion that it in fact was the Logic Board/Graphics card that needed to be replaced but tried to charge me a flat rate of $310. I spoke with the manager but she seemed to have her mind made up before she even spoke with me, and stated that paying $310 dollars for the repair was my only option. I left extremely upset. The next day I called apple support, pressed zero to speak with someone, and asked for customer relations. First he asked about the issue I was having and was able to see that I had been dealing with this issue for a while due to previous phone calls. After speaking with his manager he transferred me to customer relations because they are the ones who make the ultimate decisions to override a policy such as the ts4088. She was very helpful and as of right now I am sending my MBP off for repairs free of charge.

Thanks Apple for finally taking care of he issue, but I do wish there was an easier way.

If you are having this issue don't give up, be courteous and persistent and you will most likely get the issue taken care of.

Okay nevermind. Again. After calling and speaking with customer relations, again, and speaking with a new representative, they have agreed to cover the repaires, again. This has been a nightmare but hopefully it all works out in the end. I'll keep you updated and let everyone know how it goes.

    Hi thread,

I thought that I'd take a few minutes this afternoon and search threads on mid 2010 mbp. My mid 2010 15" i7 mbp with OWC upgrade to 8 gigs of ram has had zero issues since its purchase in October of 2010.

    Are you still having nightmares???

Thanks to everyone who posted their experiences in this thread.

My mid-2010 MacBook Pro began to experience this issue when I performed its first OS X update way back in 2010 or 2011. Until now I've been using gfxCardStatus and was unaware of the replacement program. Thanks to this thread I summoned the persistence to actually break through and get an eligibility extension just this past week. I got a brand new (hopefully defect free) logic board at no cost, so thank you to everyone who shared their stories and tactics!

To echo what others have said, if you're calm and patient but persistent I do believe that Apple Customer Relations will go the extra mile to keep you satisfied.
