Jul 25, 2012 5:40 PM in response to Tony_Couchby Cuprous,I am trying to accomplish the same thing. This suggestion will not allow you to remove the initial iMessage account that used to set Messages up. You can add and remove non-iMessage accounts but the "-" to remove the iMessage account it grayed out. I have been trying to figure this out since I mistakenly used the wrong apple id and need to change it to the iMessage account used on my iPhone and iPad. Any other ideas?

Jul 25, 2012 6:46 PM in response to Cuprousby Cuprous,I figured it out, you need to go to Preferences --> Accounts select the imessage account and then open the account details and sign out. Once you are signed out you are all set to delete the account and sign on with a different one

Jul 29, 2012 5:05 AM in response to Cuprousby USMAMSU,Perfect, Cuprous solution hit the nail on the head. Tried to figure out how to give it points since it solved my problem but if I were that computer literate I wouldn't be asking questions on this forum. So here are my 10 points for Cuprous.

ApplicationsHi,
If you use the Sign Out button the app "presumes" that you might want to re-enter the same ID.
However you can type in a new one.

ApplicationsHi,
With Messages launched and Open click on the Dock icon for it to make sure it is the "front" app (the one showing in the menu bar.)
The use the Messages menu itself and select Preferences.
In there select the Accounts pane.Select the iMessages account.
Use the Sign Out Button.
Close the app and then restart it again
Add the New ID you want to use in iMessages on the Mac.
