Q: mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

I tried all of the suggestions and nothing worked.

So I tried the dongle solution suggested by Harvey 137 (http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.php?pd_id=498&pl1_id=28&pl2_id=138) and voila! Back in action!

Brilliant! I had a feeling the IP addressing was the issue and your tips confirmed my hunch. I am now back on the Internet. I cannot believe Apple software has become so buggy! Makes me wonder if this is my last Mac?!

I was told to use the online software vs the CD as it is more up to date.

    Their tech support is outstanding.

Judy @ Edimax Tech Support  408-496-1105 #151 knows her stuff.

And they asked for feedback on any  problems.

I have the same problem regarding internet connectivity.  I have a new Air and since last week I have to reconnect everytime my laptop goes to sleep.  From all the discussions it seems to be the Maverix is the culprit.  Hope Apple sort this out soon.

By the way Edimax took that AC450 model off the market. They have updated it and replaced it. My guess is if you called them they might exchange the unit you have had trouble with.

Disclaimer I have no connection to this company. I am just a very satisfied consumer.

I would like to verify, after months of having this issue, that EdwardApple's solution seems to be working for me. I think the key is deleting the bluetooth preferences. I didn't delete all my airport keychain references, just the ones for my router. I did delete all my network pref panel items (wifi, bluetooth, thunderbolt, etc). The first step is a bit vague so i assumed that's what he meant. upon opening the lid after the appropriate waiting period the wifi not only finds and connects to the network, but it shows it doing so ( a tale-tale indicator that something was wrong was that the wifi icon showed solid and fully connected when previously opening the lid).

    Daer Harvey 137,

could you please tell me, where  you found the information that ediamx has took the AC450 model from the market. The edimax support in Germany denied this. They insist, that the reason for not functioning of the device is due to OSX10.9.3 and the driver, which isn't up to this. I tried two of these devices, because I thought the first one had a failure. But in both cases the wireless untiliy didn't appear after installation and the LED controll of the device went off and could not be restarted. So I wonder wether I have to went for a replacement of the AC450 devvice or for an upadte of the driver only.

    Best regards

I thought you were in the States.

    1. On their downloads page they do not offer a driver for the AC450

    http://www.edimax.us/html/english/frames/b-download.htm

    2. If you look on their product page you will find at the very bottom listed the

EW-7711MAC which as 7/10 days ago had not yet been released.

    http://www.edimax.com/en/produce_detail.php?pd_id=521&pl1_id=28&pl2_id=138

So my understanding is that EW-7711MAC was an upgrade and yet to be released.

In fact the driver for the EW-7711MAC is not yet listed on the website.

Does your download say it is Mavs compatible? Becuase I cannot find it on their downloads.

It is described on their website as follows.

    EW-7711MAC
    AC450 Wi-Fi USB Adapter-11ac Upgrade for MacBook.

I cannot find anybody in the states who sells the AC450 which makes me think they took it off the market?? I do not know for sure.

I see it listed in Germany @

    http://edimax-de.eu/de/produce_detail.php?pd_id=442&pl1_id=1&pl2_id=69

I will call Edimax in California later today and ask them. I specifically asked them what drivers supported Mavs and they did not mention AC450.

I just now found a driver for the EW7711MAC

I would be curious if it is the same driver as the AC450??

    Hello Harvey 137,

Thank you so much for the information and all the trouble you have taken to sort this out. In the meantime I fornd out, That AC450 is identical with EW-7711. AC450 seems to be the marketing name and EW-7711 ist the name Edimax uses. So the diver for EW-7711 should work with the AC450 device.  But not in my case. As told before I used two and in both cases, the LED control went out and the device couln't be connected to my MacBook. I had to return both devices to the sellers. Now I wait for a solution. Either a better device or software which works with OSX 10.9.3.

Once again many thanks for the outstanding efforts to sort out this puzzeling case.

    Best regards

I just got off the phone with Edimax in California. The tech support person said this unit should work with all Mavs.

    And yes the AC450= EW7711MAC.

He specifically asked what was wrong and I could not explain to him what exactly you had problems with.

Apparently this unit is available in Europe but has not yet been released in the US.

He asked that you contact him directly @ this email  "wing@edimax.com".

You can call him by his name which is "Wing". He is Asian.

I hope this helps. I know I had to install my dongle in my wireless network preferences. Once installed I have a yellow wifi icon in my dock. And when I plug my dongle in screen pops up showing the status of the dongle and the blue LED begins blinking.
