Q: Belkin bluetooth keypad

Has anyone managed to get their MacBook Pro to pair with Belkins F8T067 bluetooth keypad with Maverick 10.9 ?

I just bought one today... from an Apple Store.... took it home and spent a very frustrating hour trying to set it up, and failed miserably.

I successfully got the MacBook Pro to pair with the keypad, but it couldn't identify it correctly and the OS only offered 3 different standard keyboard options, none of which were appropriate. In fact the "idiot mode" setup trying identify the keyboard kept insisting that I only needed to press the key to the left of the shift key to identify it.....which of course doesn't exist as its a KEYPAD dummy !

I can't believe that apple has completely overlooked that their flagship new OS doesn't seem to support bluetooth keypads that they sell in all their Apple Stores.

And I can't believe also that Belkin make absolutely no mention of this problem and a solution on their website and their setup info on their website is obviously dated.

Come on people.... this kind of screw-up is what we like to poke fun at our competition for !!

Anyone got any suggested solutions for me ?

Have you try to open the Bluetooth settings in the System Preferences and manually connected the Belkin keypad. Worked for me and I have no issues with the keypad.

I did try that previously and it worked for a short time then it would stop working. I no longer have the keypad.

    aapffel has a good point.

I was going to try that and I thought I first would try the last part, which is...take out the (new) batteries and put them back in, and I was right....it started wortking well after that.

It's only been 2 days so I don't know what the future will bring. But everything is working on it now and I'm happy.

Thanks, dude! I appreciate your taking the time to post.

I got one of these recently and was incredibly frustrated with how it would barely work, typing only a few digits at a time with a long delay whenever I went to use it, then ceasing to function until I repaired the device, only to have the same problem.

The solution is to use non-rechargeable batteries. The Apple rechargeable AA batteries only put out 1.2 V—check the markings on the side of the batteries. Normal non-rechargeable AA battries put out 1.5 V. Again, check the markings on the side. Rechargeable batteries have lower voltage than non-rechargeable ones, and this trackpad needs the full 3 V of electricity of two non-rechargeable batteries to function. If you put in rechargeable ones, even fully charged ones, the number pad will only get 2.4 V and won’t work properly. Maybe you’ll be able to pair it, maybe you’ll be able to type a few digits once or twice, but it just won’t work because it won’t have enough electricity to function and it will drive you crazy.

Use non-rechargeable 1.5 V batteries and it will work just fine.

I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 and had an issue with the YourType Keypad reconnecting.  It was working before but here is what I determined after successfully pairing this device with two different systems.

    1. The documentation provided by Belkin is wrong.  The device will not pair under >system preferences>keyboard>set up bluetooth keyboard (this process does not work)

    This works does work

    1. Select >system preferences>bluetooth

    2. make sure the batteries are in the YourType Keypad

    3. Hit the power button or press any key on the keyboard

    4. The OS will ask you if you want to pair the device

    5. Select yes

    6. The device should work

Occassionally when you try to wake up the YourType Keypad the Bluetooth radio or the OS will not see it and you need to remove it and pair it again.  Just follow the steps above and make sure to restart your computer.

Good luck.  The device is nice when it works correctly.

I use rechargeable Eneloop batteries by Panasonic. These are the best you can buy.And they've recently been improved even more. They work quite well. The Keypad appears to go to sleep bluetooth wise, you have to hit a key to wake it up which is fine. Saves on power unlike other devices.

I thought this made possible sense for what I experienced - I use Eneloop rechargeables and perhaps the Belkins doesn't like rechargeables at all, as what you describe is what I experienced.  It would ink fine and then start jumping and acting crazy.

lerici says he uses the same batteries and seems to have no problem (except the weird going to sleep thing).

All I can guess is that last Fall the Belkins being offered in the Apple Store had some problem with them, that has either been fixed so this battery issue seems to resolve for some people.

I am not willing to hassle with buying endless batteries just for this.  The first LMP that I bought 2 years ago (this is what the Apple Store was offering), linked and has never had any issue, nor have the other 2 that I have since bought.  The Belkin was a pain.

    I use rechargeables no problem.

The set up is via system preferences/keyboard/set up bluetooth keyboard

Pop it in pairing mode by holiding the on/off swithc until it flashes green twice, then it asks for a 6 digit code to be entered using your new keyboard.

    Fixed.

As others on this thread have mentioned, incomprehensable as it may be, I simply changed the batteries and it started to work.

I am running Mavericks. The YourType would connect just fine but not actually register key clicks. It was working yesterday, so I knew that it certainly worked with Mavericks (contrary to some comments on this thread).

The batteries that were in it were at 69% (according to the Bluetooth preferences panel). But because a few people here suggested that changing the batteries worked for them and I had nothing to lose, I swapped them for fully charged Apple batteries ....

    And it worked.

This is crazy but it works.  I had been trawling through Google, looking at this and other Apple discussion forums, and getting nowhere.  I was about to give up when I came across uniquebobc's post (thanks!) on another thread.

Having followed the various guides, including resetting SMC and other exotica, I can't believe the solution was as simple as pairing the keyboard (which I had done before but no text would appear on the screen), then pressing the power/discoverable button on the keypad firmly for several seconds (in the manner of a hard reset), then hitting the large key that isn't actually marked 'Enter' but is in the place that the Enter key usually occupies.  It worked straight off.  I am dumbfounded but still really, really upset with Belkin's poor after sales service.  They've lost a good cutsomer here.

Had the same issue. Replaced the batteries and it worked. Belkin may be sending out faulty batteries.

I've been having the same problem with my brand new Belkin YourType wireless keypad - it would pair but not identify. I'm running OSX 10.8.5 on a 2013 Macbook Pro.

To identify the keyboard you're supposed to hit the key next to Shift which of course this doesn't have. For some people hitting the Enter button instead (or the large button if you have the version without the word Enter on it) seems to fix it but not for me.

And then I tried what has been suggested in a couple of posts, swapping the batteries ... and it's working! So do try that if you haven't already, it sounds implausible but the evidence is there, I now have a working keyboard. I'm using Apple Rechargeable batteries. I removed the keyboard from the Bluetooth devices in System Preferences, swapped the batteries, turned the keyboard back on, and then it paired properly with no request for identification.

Must say the Belkin 'Quick Start Guide' is next to useless and the website seems to offer no further help, pretty disappointing as this seems to be a widespread problem. Will wait and see if it keeps working or it'll be back to the shop for this purchase.

My keypad has been working for a year and then suddenly stopped.

Here's how I fixed it, removing any previous pairing...

    1. Power off on the keypad (hold down the power until it goes out)

    2. New batteries (although they weren't indicated as low)

    3. Open Bluetooth preferences

    4. Delete the entry for YourType Wireless KeyPad

    5. Power on and hold down the power until the green light flashes

    6. Keypad should be discovered by the Mac

    7. Click PAIR and your are offered you a pairing number to type in

All seems fine again now, which is just as well because I use this thing a lot.

That's amazing, I have been hassling our IT support who have been unable to fix for two weeks. I followed your instructions including changing the batteries and it now works perfectly - thank you! Like you the batteries were already new and I exchanged them for exactly the same brand but it worked so who cares why!!
