Q: iPhone 5: How to recover deleted photos?

Hello,

I recently got an iPhone 5 and been happily snapping away. However, the other day managed to delete a load of photos that didn't want to delete.

I'm travelling and don't have a computer or have made any backups, via iTunes and neither Photostream or anything like that.

I'd really like the photos back and wondering if there is a way of doing it? I'd put some in the app "Photo Vault" to try and keep some secure, but they're gone as well.

I've used SD card software to recover photos from SD cards before with some success, and was wondering if there's a similar thing for iPhone?

Thanks

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.2

Check if you have iTunes or iCloud backup of your iPhone first, if you have either of them, try to restore with previous backup.

iTunes and iCloud will automatically back up your iPhone even if have not done it manually:

iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your iPhone on a daily basis as long as your device is:

    1. Connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi
    2. Connected to a power source
    3. Screen locked

iTunes can create backups of your iPhone automatically when you sync with iTunes (disabled if you have iCloud backup turned on).

Still haven’t found your iPhone backup? These are still other methods to recover deleted photos on your iPhone.

As I known, there are mainly two methods to recover iPhone photos.

Way 1: Recover Deleted Photos Directly from iPhone

Step 1 Connect your Device and Choose the Recovery Mode

Step 2 Enter DFU Mode and Scan for Deleted Photos

Step 3 Preview and Recover lost Photos

Way 2: Restore Deleted Photos from iTunes Backup

Step 1 Select the Recovery Mode

Step 2 Scan the Backup File

Step 3 Check and Recover deleted Pictures

Provided that you have a backup in iTunes.

    Good luck!

Step 2 Enter DFU Mode and Scan for Deleted Photos

Step 3 Preview and Recover lost Photos

Way 2: Restore Deleted Photos from iTunes Backup

Step 1 Select the Recovery Mode

Step 2 Scan the Backup File

Step 3 Check and Recover deleted Pictures

Provided that you have a backup in iTunes and you can retrieve deleted photos from it.

Before you try a third-party app, you should take the possibilities Apple gives you: Did you already had a look at your iCloud- or iTunes-Backup, if it exists?

Once you deleted photos from your iPhone, you should not use your iPhone anymore before you recover the lost pictures. Backup photos and other data to iTunes is the best way to aviod data loss from your iPhone. However, if you did not backup them to iTunes with the iPhone data recovery, you can also recover them, but the process may be a little complicated. And if you have backup the photos before, it is much easier. With this data recovery for iPhone, you can extract the photos from your iTunes backup files selectively. No need to connect you iPhone to computer, therefore, even you iPhone is broken or stolen, you can recover deleted photos.

No matter we have backup or not we can recover deleted photos.

First, check if their physical footprint still exists. Go to Settings > General > Usage and check the amount of storage available, do you notice that there is a lot of used storage ? You can also check it through iTunes, which might show used memory labeled as Other.

I lost all my pictures and videos after jailbreaking my phone, yet iTunes showed that they are still taking physical memory (labeled as Other - iTunes did not recognise my pics or vids anymore). This means they cannot be viewed via Camera Roll but they are still stored in the phone.

To fix that, download iFunBox ( http://www.i-funbox.com ) and use it to locate and extract the images from the phone (no need for iTunes to access the phone). I managed to extract all my photos from the phone to an external USB, which accumulated to over 20GB of photos and videos.

Use this method and you should recover your photos and videos with no previous backup. If your phone shows that there is a lot of empty storage, then your photos might have actually been completely removed.

I'm in a similar situation and lost about 60 photos of my daughter with the princesses from our recent trip to Disneyland I've downloaded ifunbox and am able to access many of the files on my phone but I can't find a file with my deleted items.  Can someone guide me to where I should be looking for them?  Do I need to put my phone into recovery mode to be able to access the deleted files?  This is the most progress I've had with any program thus far... Feeling like I'm so close but I need some extra guidance!  I have been googling all afternoon looking for a tutorial or instructions but have come up empty handed. Firear84 or Jackyum - can you help me out? Thanks!

There are few softwares that will allow you to do that.

I know few for Mac: iSkysoft iPhone Data Recovery, Wondershare Dr.Fone for iOS, and Fireebook Data Recovery for iPhone.

The free versions of the apps will allow you to scan your device, and then if you find the files u were looking for you can purchase the full version to recover.

Can't say any more, as the file I wanted to recover was not worthy purchasing the full version, so I have not purchased the license.

    Hope it helps.

Fireebok Data Recovery seemed to find more files for me than the rest. But still I cannot try to recover them as I dont have the license

can you remember the folder location?

my "other" folder was 8+gb the other day. but i found the culprit and deleted the app folder. which reduced it back to 1.54gb. but today, its gone back up to 2.3g

i need to find the location of the the "other" folder to recover a few pics and to empty it.
