Q: mac osx 10.9 Mavericks wifi issue

Ok so Wifi is really starting to annoy now....

I have a 2013 Mac Air (about 1 month old). I upgraded to mavericks and now EVERYTIME the machine goes to sleep, i close the lid, whatever the wifi connection is shut down and on logging in again, the wifi doesn't connect. I have to manually turn off wifi and then turn on again before selecting my network (and usually needs 2 attempts).

This is unacceptable.

Does anybody else suffer from this issue? any ideas on how to fix it (other than reverting back to MLion - if that's even possible)

Thanks in advance for any responses

Kind Regards

Thank you so much. You are a great help. I will get in touch with Wing. It's great to have somebody to discuss the problem with.

    Thanks, Thanks

I finally got the EW-7811UN and it is working okay. The main issue is you have to keep the Wireless Network Utility running at all times. Despite keeping it running, it just refuses to connect to my router at times and turining off radio and back again seems to get it working. In addition, I also observed that it has poor reception in areas where built-in WiFi would work okay. In those cases, it keeps connecting and disconnecting. Has anyone else using any other Edimax product observed similar issues?

I'm going to call them today/tomorrow and see if there is any recommendation to make it better.

I am using a Edimax Ew-7722 UTn V2 on my other old MacBook 2008. I replaced the wireless card with a new AE wireless card and the Edimax out performs the new wireless card big time. This unit also has a separated antenna that extends the range even further. It does not run in the back round when not being used and it never drops a signal.

As many others, wifi is not working for more than a few minutes at a time. I tried all the possible fixes but nothing seems to work. I have a Macmini with 16 gig Ram, bought at the Apple store this January.

One note which could be of interest, the trouble started after downloading and installing a trial for After Effects CC from Adobe web site.

I am running all the updates on this machine (Itunes 11.2.1, OSX 10.9.3) so I booted off a clone that is 2 weeks old with 10.9.2 and no adobe CC on it. I thought that this would bring wifi back to normal, but I got no luck with that either.

My temporary fix is an Ethernet cable to ny airport router.

I feel for the poor users with macbooks who are used to carry their computers with them and having wifi for connectivity.

My first Mac was an LC475 running Mac Os 7.1, and this is the first time, that I can't solve a problem with my mac by myself or with the help of other users...

So I have been a big proponent of wifi dongle adapters. Have you tried one?

I tried everything and the solution that has worked for me is as follows:

    • Click on the Wifi icon and select Open Network Preferences
    • In the left-hand pane, make sure you select Wifi. (You may also see Bluetooth and Thunderbolt Bridge.)
    • At the bottom of the left-hand pane, there is a settings icon (the gear cog icon). Click on it and select Select Service Order
    • Drag Wi-Fi to the top, click OK then click Apply.

My Mac has not shown the issue of failing to reconnect to Wi-fi since performing the above.

    This also work:

*click on the wi-fi icon on the top left of your screen and then select

    open network preference.

*on the left side panel select wi-fi, then click the minus sign at the left bottom of the screen,

    this will delete the wi-fi.

    * restart computer, now your wi-fi icon on the top left side of teh screen will look

different, again select wi-fi, and open network preference.

*click on the plus sign at the bottom of the left panel and create  a new wi-fi.

*select wi-fi, and then in the right side panel click on advanced.

*in the new panel (with wi-fi selected) click at the bottom left of the panel

on "Turn wi-fi on and off"

    * now wi-fi will require administrator pass work to go back on,

and it will no longer go on by itself at start up.

*click ok at the bottom righ of the panel, closing that panel, and then click apply

on the right side bottom of the panel (if needed) then close the network preference

    window and restart.

    Done

I have a macbook pro 13". I updated to  the os x 10.9.2 and since then my home wifi does not connect to my macbook pro. At first, the wifi network did not show but then i tried deleting the wifi tab and recreating wifi (it connected to my network for 5 minutes then it disconnects). All my other devices is connected to the internet. The name of my wifi network appears but says its not able to join. I tried all of the solutions except installing os x lion back again. I want to know if they are other solutions or if installing os x lion again will fix the problem. (Additon-> everytime i try to connect to my wifi network its takes me to "run diagnostics".

Try turning wifi off and on when this happens from the Menu Bar's Wifi icon. "Turn Wi-Fi Off" then "Turn Wi-Fi On".

Also try the the "ping" work-around, posted both in this thread and here. It seems to help some people with this issue.

Just confirming that upgrading to 10.9.3 does NOT help the issue for me.

    Still using the ping workaround.

Incidentally, if Apple engineering teams contact users, supposedly off of these discussion forums, they should be more forthcoming with credentials, which recipients can use to authenticate both sender and message. For the record, contacting Apple to verify the authenticity of the message I received, failed to authenticate sender and the message.
