Q: Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 Won't wifi sync iPhone

Since updating to Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 itunes no longer recognizes either my iphone or ipad via wi-fi.

I have plugged them in and toggled the checkbox to no avail.

I have even restored my iphone.  No deal.

If I plug them in, then I can sync.  But even with the box checked to sync over wi-fi, as soon as I unplug the phone, it loses connecton.

I have also rebooted the phone and restarted my computer.

The sync over wi-fi opton is completely unavailable.

Frithwood, What you describe is abnormal. You need to delete preferences, repair Permissions, ensure you have the proper permissions in your user folders, reinstall or upgrade iTunes. Stuff like that. iTunes shouldn't crash in the way you describe.

Fixed and now syncing OK today without any intervention by myself. Although I raised a support call to Apple I received no call back.

I've been fighting this problem for so long. When the most recent update for Mavericks (10.9.3) and iTunes (11.2.1 (1)) again failed to fix it, I spent a long-time searching forums for discussions on each both my perceived iPhone symptoms and iTunes symptoms.

    I found this:

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15705708#15705708

Which I think I had tried before, but I went through the steps again, saw the iTunes Helper wasn't loaded, and didn't appear in my log in items. I dragged it there, launched iTunes, and iTunes immediately saw my iPhone, which was plugged into a charger downstairs.

I've been wifi synching all week with no problems.

@typographer, thanks for sharing your solution. However, this is not likely the only cause in your case or likely to work for other Mavericks users as in testing by

    1. quitting iTunesHelper with iTunes 11.2.1 not running under Mavericks 10.9.3,

only results in iTunesHelper starting again when iTunes is launched and sync will work with nothing else done. iTunesHelper does not need to be among the account start items in Mavericks.

It's likely you had permission issues or something else that prevented iTunesHelper from launching. Did you check this prior?

MAVERICKS  - That (Syncing), Sinking Feeling!  ……….  This Fixed Mine……..……….

iPad, iPod not syncing on Mavericks…. I-Tunes freezing on connection of same to the usb port!  The following fixed these issues on my MacBook Pro running 10.9.3.  I do have Xcode on my laptop, but have never used it….  I’m not a programmer or hacker, just a cheesed of Apple fan.  I tried many of the already suggested possible fixes and nothing helped. Got fed up using the disk repair utility and getting no further on.

I opened System Preferences, Security & Privacy/Privacy.  In Accessibility, after having scanned all my files many times, I added the following apps, some of them may be developer tools from Xcode, and gave them all control….. then did a computer restart.

    AppleMobileDeviceHelper.app

    AppleMobileSync.app

    ARDAgent.app

    Automator Runner.app

    CalendarFile Handler.app

    CMFSyncAgent.app

    CoreServicesUIAgent.app

    File Sync.app

    FileSyncAgent.app

    Image Events.app

    iTunes.app

    Migration Assistant.app

    Syncrospector.app

    SyncServer.app

    UnmountAssistantAgent.app

    USB Prober.app

I suspect it was probably overkill, but it worked.  My iPad and iPod are visible and syncing as normal in iTunes.  The program is running normally. hope it helps everyone………

How about tesitng your assumptions by opening the Activity Monitor and force quitting these (except iTunes of course) one by one, testing wifi syncing after each quit until it breaks? Then verify you can get it back working again.

Given one of the apps you list is iTunes, which is needed for Wifi syncing, it's a given wifi sync can work with it running and can't work if it's not running.

I am having the same problem.  I moved to apple because everything just seem to work with no playing around.  I don't want to mess about trying to wifi sync my iphone and Ipad to my mac book pro.  If I wanted to waste hours trying to get things to work I would have stuck with Microsoft based systems.  I am tired of the concept of plug and item in and then playing with it for hours to try and get it to work.

I guess my apple rose tinted specs just got broken.

APPLE DEVICES NOT SYNCING IN ITUNES 11?..........  TRY THIS....

I have to say that this fix is not mine, but it has worked and continues to work on my MacBook -Pro, on both mac and android devices.

    • Enable viewing of invisible files, in whichever manner suits you.
    • Go to : User/Your Name/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/
    • Tranfer the enclosed file, mine is called "Local" to your desktop or trash.  Do not delete it until you know that your itunes is syncing.
    • Do a re-start, (Mavericks should re-write the file).

    • Try syncing all should be well, just give it a couple of extra minutes to adjust for the new file.
    • Delete the old file.

Cheers all, happy syncing, what a relief.....

Thank you for your help,  I have finally got the devices talking to one another.  On top of what you suggested I did, I did the following

1 reboot the iPhone, iPad and Mackbook

2 turned off the sync via wifi tab in iTunes

    3 closed iTunes

4 reopened iTunes and using a cable re-enabled the sync via wifi in itunes

    5 reboot the Macbook

    both device reappeared in iTunes

Just leave me to say thank you for your.  Steve Jobs would be turning in his grave.  The whole point of Apple is great technology that non-technical people can use without even realizing how great it really is.

None of the most recent suggestions has helped me.   I tried both HappyScotsLass's suggestions with no luck.    I may try re-installing Mavericks at some point, but with 3 Macs in the home experiencing the exact same thing I'm doubting that will help.

I'll try just about anything at this point.   Probably try the Apple support route but won't hold my breath on that one.

I wonder if it would be of value to try figure out what all of us having issues have in common... apps we're running, home network characteristics etc.

I'll post up something on this soon.

Sorry neither helped you with the sync issue.  Apart from re-booting my ipad, the only other things that I did were to delete all the com.apple .plist files in "User Name"/Library/Preferences/.......  these were part of previous failed fix attempts.  I also moved my iTunes library file "User Name"/Music/iTunes/ ITunes Music Library.xml to my desktop.  Oh I also un-installed my Norton Security packages....

ITunes opened as a new package and I had to sign in and then re-import my library file from the desktop using the iTunes drop down menu import.  Perhaps try a complete power off for ten minutes instead of a re-start.  We are all so frustrated and trying anything to help.  It's hard to remember it all.  These were done in an attempt at a prior fix which failed, but perhaps in conjunction with the renewed Syncserver/local file and .plist files may have had an effect on my own fix..........

I would suggest one more try, closing everything, disconnecting all devices, usb and wi-fi. do the com.apple .plist file deletion, the sync server local file deletion and the itunes music library file move then power off...... and re-start after ten minutes or so....

I feel for you all, it drove me crazy......

THIS FIX WORKED FOR ME .... 03/June/2014

Update to my previous after installing iTunes 11.2.2.(3) yesterday which caused my fix to fail and my devices not to mount AGAIN........

I followed some of my own advice and moved/deleted the following .plist files from "User Name"/Library/Preferences/.......

    • com.apple.iPod.plist
    • com.apple.iTunes.plist
    • com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
    • com.apple.MobileDeviceCrashCopy.plist
    • com.apple.syncserver.plist
    • com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    • com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

I also moved/deleted from  User/Your Name/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/              the enclosed file, mine is called "Local" , and moved my iTunes library file "User Name"/Music/iTunes/ ITunes Music Library.xml to my desktop.

After a power off and restart my devices mounted and iTunes was syncing again....... I then put my library file back.

So much for thinking that Apple had sent out the update as a fix!

    Good luck all.

Thank you, HappyScotsLass. Your suggestion didn't completely remedy ny situation, but it cleared up a number of things. My iMac is connected by Ethernet to my Airport, which is running both 2.4- and 5GHz networks, so I wondered if some combination of those things was messing me up.

So I followed your directions, including unplugging EVERYTHING from the iMac for several minutes, restarting the Airport and powering off and on the iPhone. After restarting, I attached the iMac to the 2.4GHz network (the same as the iPhone) and Voila!! It worked like a trained pig at the county fair! I synced several times, initiating from either end, all like clockwork.

Emboldened, I dared to switch the iMac to the 5GHz network and it still worked. Oh, Joy! Oh, Rapture!

So then I returned to the setup that I actually use: I just plugged the Ethernet cable into the iMac and the next sync attempt failed, and failed, and failed...

So this is me, turning off wi-fi on the iMac and officially giving up.

P.S. I guess USB syncing isn't so bad, but I just HATE it when an "up"grade (as in "up yours") takes a way a feature that I'd become accustomed to. If I wanted to fear every "up"grade I could go back to Windows.
