Q: Safari Tab problems... still not resolved!

Hello, so I tried this forum yesterday with no luck in getting my problem resolved. So here I am again. I'm running the latest Safari on Mavericks 10.9.3 on my iMac. Yesterday, after a fresh start up, Safari opened, but, it opened with hundreds + hundreds of tabs. I'm talking stuff going back 4 years or so. Anyway, I restarted the machine, tried force quitting safari, tried resetting safari... nothing helped. Went to some forums, tried emptying cach in Develop menu bar, but it didn't help. Posted my question to this forum yesterday, and got the following response:

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

I followed the steps, but no luck (BTW I did empty trash)! Then I went through Activity Monitor to try and diagnose the problem, that also wasn't helpful. I then did a Safe Mode restart as well as a PRAM reset. Also, no luck. Then I thought let me re-install Mavericks. Did that... but nope, still opening all those tabs! What is happening???? Please can someone help! Safari still operates fine and I can obviously close all the tabs each time I open the app, but that's not the point... I wanna know why?!??!!!!? And even more concerning, could this be a virus??

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
