Jun 5, 2014 11:46 AM in response to joeyadduciby victoryhat,I use a towel with windex on it. I make sure that the towel is just moist, not dripping with liquid. I wipe the oustside and the keyboard and trackpad down. I think apple recomends you use clorox wipes. the main thing is to make sure that the towel is not dripping wet, only damp.

Mac OS XDon't use Windex or any other ammonia-based cleaner!
For years Apple carried the iKlear products for cleaning Macs. They used to carry them in the Apple Stores but when I was last at my local Apple Store, I didn't see any on the shelf.
You can order a great 'starter kit' from Amazon, however -> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0023WU6OI/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1.
They're great for screens, aluminum, even the keyboard (just make certain that a little bit of the spray goes a long way and the included cleaning cloths should only be moistened, not wet).
Been using iKlear for over 13 years now and it's a great kit.

Jun 5, 2014 11:54 AM in response to joeyadduciby sanjampet,Here is Apple's Recommendation:
http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro/care/
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
I use eyeglass lense cleaner that is safe for coated lenses and a micro fiber cloth, you want to make sure you turn the mac off, do not spray any liquid on the mac, spray sparingly on the cloth only to dampen, be sure to support the screen when wiping, use light pressure.

Jun 5, 2014 12:57 PM in response to joeyadduciby OGELTHORPE,For the display, I use Windex Electronics:
http://www.windex.com/en-US/Products/Pages/electronic-cleaner-and-wipes.aspx
Spray some on a small microfiber cloth using vertical and horizontal strokes on the display. Then a large microfiber cloth, dry the display. It will look like it came out of the box.
THIS IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ORDINARY WINDEX GLASS CLEANER!
The aluminum case may be cleaned with any ordinary household cleaner sprayed on a cloth.
Ciao.

Mac OS XThe OP asked about how to "safely" clean his/her computer - standard Windex is not a safe option and can damage the screen. The Windex Electronics product can be safely used, as OGELTHORPE notes, but not the ammonia-based product.

Jun 5, 2014 1:20 PM in response to joeyadduciby victoryhat,All of the windex naysayers might want to go to the clorox wipes homepage (the product apple recomends to use) and see the list of ingredients.
