Q: iTunes Match artwork reverting to old version

On my primary iTunes Mac, embedded artwork that I've changed since turning on iTunes Match reverts back to previous artwork. For example, if I have a 500 dpi cover artwork in a track that iTunes has matched, then today I go upgrade the artwork to a 1000 dpi version, the next time iTunes Match updates it will wipe out my 1000 dpi version and replace it with my old 500 dpi artwork. It is NOT grabbing the iTunes Store artwork, it is somehow recovering MY old artwork from the cloud.

I've tried DougScripts Re-Embed Artwork script - no luck. I've dried deleting artwork, updating iTunes Match, pasting in desired artwork, updating iTunes Match again - pulls back old unwanted artwork. The only solution I've found is to upgrade the artwork, drag the tracks out of iTunes before Match updates, delete the tracks from iTunes and iCloud, and finally drag the tracks back in to iTunes. iTunes Match appears to keep my new artwork from now on (so far at least!).

I REALLY wish there was a setting that says "Never mess with my artwork!" It's great that Match doesn't change my iTunes audio files unless I tell it to. Why in the world does it change my artwork?

Hey, is there anybody who has same situation on the new update about this f***ing problem on ios 7.1?

I was very satisfied with TheIceMan223s notification, but my artwork still does not change at all.

I was so stupid that when I first uploaded Wings over Amercia album to itunese match, I was confusued with this album to Ringo Starr's solo album (Y' Not on 2010).

So every time I try to listen to Wings, I always have to see Ringo's 70 old years face (still better than McCartney's 70 face anyway) on my iphone.

It never changes and I feel like I have a discurse of Ringo Starr.

Plz let me know if there is anyone who can fix this problem.

I had to erase and retore my phone yesterday and it appears some artworks are now slowly reverting back again. It is just so messy. The whole app feels like a beta at the moment.

I'm willing to wait for iOS 8 though, as it appears that 'the truth' is still in the cloud. The problem is just iOS. I just created a new user account on my mac and enabled iTunes Match. Everything again appeared exactly as it should. Even when I actually downloaded some songs, it attached the correct artworks to them. So I'm still rather hopeful.

Just to verify and bumb, I'm on 7.1.1 and this crap, and I do mean crap, is still happening.

I love Apple, but this is as bad as maps. There are numerious issues with iTunes beyond match, but match I pay for annually. So, I'm about to drop this service.

Spotify and/or direct purchase from iTunes for new stuff seems like the best option. The artwork crap is broke. I tried over a year to fix this on and off... nothing. So freak'in annoying...

Even with iTunes 12, iPhone 6, iOS 8.1, I am still having the same issues with trying to change incorrect artwork!

It's still broken. iTunes still drops or reverts cover artwork randomly.

I don't know if any one has mentioned this but I just tried it and it worked.

The file itself is embedded with the artwork. Probably difficult to delete, idk. So what I did was create an ACC version of the song and then deleted the original along with the file. The ACC version should show up with the correct artwork automatically. But you would also have to right click the song and manually add to iCloud because it will show up as a duplicate and not upload automatically.

With the release of iOS 8.4/iTunes 12.2 comes the ability to insert custom artwork into playlists.  The addition of this feature would make you think that they'd have to shore up this long standing problem with artwork reversion, so I'm curious if anyone has noticed any improvement in this area?

So far after changing some artwork, I haven't had any reversions.  Yet.  It's early, but hopefully this bug has been finally fixed.

Unfortunately 12.2 nor 12.2.1 improve on the album artwork data loss issue. It's absolutely impossible to change the artwork on an iCloud stores song currently. If you have some time are want to push apple to implement a fix please login to https://bugreport.apple.com and duplicate this bug report: http://www.openradar.me/16793321

It's absolutely unacceptable that this is still occurring. And what's funny is that it was actually working almost perfectly on Apple Music / iCloud Music Library UNTIL I turned iTunes Match back on. Then nothing would update. What the f*ck, Apple.

It's 2016 and Apple hasn't come up with a solution.

    It's just totally absurd.

If it's a device, Apple is totally obsessive. If it's a software application or a service, Apple is totally dismissive.
