Q: Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Well, this worked for me: I dumped Mail and installed Thunderbird. It's not as elegant, but a lot better than using web mail or Google's site.

The problem should be obvious to an Apple Mail expert. Here's the activity screen. It just keeps on and on for minutes at a time.

    I am completely FRUSTRATED!

One week this has been happening. My Gmail is not loading on my iMac, iPhone and iPad.

Spent days with level 2-tier tech support.

As an experiment, I created a brand new gmail. Tested it out on all 3 - and POOF! it worked ine a flash!

I went back and put my original gmail address in and nothing but TROUBLE!

    What is going on here?

Apple said to call "google" and that my gmail account is not working right.

Why would one email address be totally fine, and not another?

FYI: I tried my gmail on my girlfriends iPhone and it did NOT go through. I tried her gmail on MY iphone and it worked!

    Help???

    Brian

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.

You are right Eric, this is marked as "solved" and less people are likely to see it. But I made it here, and so will others frustrated by this.

Since in reality this problen has NOT BEEN SOLVED, I'll just keep an eye on things and share when (if ever) there is a real fix.

    Hi,

I also struggled for quite a while.

After some more research i stumbled upon the following solution:

Log in to gmail in your browser. Look at your folders. Rename all folders containing a slash (/), like [IMAP] / Sent to [IMAP] Sent. Then go to apple Mail, delete your google account and set it up again. Or, if mail crashes upon starting, go to Library/Mail/V2 in Finder and delete the folder of your gmail account. Reopen Mail and it should work. This fixed it for me and everything works like a charm again. Finally.

Thanks. It didn't work for me, though.

Like BFcomposes, I can get another gmail account to work just fine. However, this problem also showed up on my secretary's Outlook on Windows, using my account, so the fault might be with Gmail somehow.

It only showed up yesterday for me, and it's been utterly perplexing.

    Hi Bood,

Any more thoughts? Yesterday, it all came back PERFECTLY out of nowhere!

And then after 6 hours - it's DEAD again.

Is this really a Gmail server problem?

    Very frustrated.

As boods problem exists on Windows, IOS and OSX and with 3 different clients it is a Google Server problem.

You may or my not have the same problem so start your own thread and describe your problem and identify your Mac and your version of OX.

Mine continues to come and go.  Generally deleting the Google account from System Preferences/Internet Accounts and recreating it works for a few hours, sometimes a couple of weeks, but then it lapses again.

And does this happen using Outlook on Windows, Mail on Mac and Mail on IOS like bood's does, or do you also have a different problem?
