Q: Preview's annotation feature
'Preview' has a very useful Annotation tool and I've discovered that it can be used to put a patch over unwanted text in pdfs. The colour of the patch can be changed by Tools >Show Colors, selecting the Annotation and clicking a color in the color pallet. The text can be deleted leaving a blank patch. Great so far, but we often have to use pdfs that were originated by a volunteer in another state or country and if we wish to change the phone of address details we're faced with having to re-draw the pdf. Yes we can add text to the patch but - please help me with this if you can. How can we change the font to match the font used in the pdf?

Hi, Digby.

Currently there is a bug in Preview that basically ignores all of the options you can select from the Font choice in the contextual menu for text in a text annotation. There is no solution or workaround for this. A bug report has been filed.
If you want to modify PDFs with relative font compatibility, you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat, which includes "Text TouchUp" tools, permitting you to edit the text in an unprotected PDF.
Good luck!
