Q: Do app uptades take from the internal memory?

If the original app I had installed to my iPhone was, say, 10 MB, what happens when I install, say, 5 MB app update? Would this updated app take from my phone's internal memory 15 MB in aggregate?

If so this is annoying and I need to consider removing some apps because the app updates I had installed so far seem to be far bigger than their original versions.

There is no one to one correlation between the size of an update and the size of the resulting updated app. The update generally contains replacement code for parts of the App. It is not necessarily an addition to the app, however, if the update contains new features, graphics, etc., the resulting updated app may be larger. It is is also possible, though less likely, that the updated app could be smaller than the original app. This will vary between apps.

Thank you. I wish Apple compelled the software companies to declare how much size the app would take after installing the update as there is no way to revert to the previous version. In such case before deciding to update the app one can check how much space that app takes before the installation and compare it to how much it would take after the installation.

I don't want to sound so stingy about the internal memory but for people with low internal memory iPhone models (16GB or less) this might be important. Perhaps, in order to not to disencourage ppl with iPhones having low memory, there might be some apps which have been deliberately released with low MB in their original or in a couple of subsequent versions and later upgraded with major and therefore memory-intensive features. If they make such decleration we can track how much they are further taking from our iPhones' internal memory in each update.

I just bought my first iphone 5s today, and when I opened inside to find out how much internal memory I have, it says total internal memory is 29.5GB , and it is only 25GB free . I have not installed any app or whatsoever . I bought a 32GB internal memory iphone. I am not impressed with this!!
