Jun 10, 2014 11:59 AM in response to Photogirl01by John Galt,★HelpfulDo that before anything else. Preferably, create two backups. The symptoms you describe are consistent with a failing hard disk drive, but other causes are certainly possible.

Jun 10, 2014 12:09 PM in response to Photogirl01by Old Toad,★HelpfulFirst thing to do is remove CleanMyMac2. It's essentially malware in that is does more harm than good as it often removes some system files. You can try the developer's instructions for that that are described here: How To Uninstall CleanMyMac 2? Complete Removal of Mac Apps.
Once it's removed reboot and rerun Etrecheck.

Jun 10, 2014 12:21 PM in response to Old Toadby Photogirl01,Hmmm. Do I just delete it from the applications folder - will that be enough? The instructions say go to 'uninstaller' to get rid of it all but I do not have that app and it looks like its part of the cleanmymac bundle.
I am just backing up my HD and will restart and run the diagnostic again. Thanks for your help.

Jun 10, 2014 12:49 PM in response to Photogirl01by rkaufmann87,You also installed MacKeeper which is very harmful to your system. Follow the developers instructions for uninstalling MacKeeper.
Going forward, DO NOT download any third party apps such as Anti - Virus, performance enhancing, cleaning, etc apps. OS X is not like MS Windows that relies on those types of tools. If you leave OS X alone that is the best thing you can possibly do.

Jun 10, 2014 2:19 PM in response to Photogirl01by John Galt,Hmmm. Do I just delete it from the applications folder - will that be enough?
No, and the developer's uninstallation instructions are not completely effective.
Using CleanMyMac to remove what it considers "junk" will corrupt a system.
CleanMyMac's uninstaller does not remove all its components. Only MacPaw, its developer, can know the reason for that, but I can think of two possibilities: either they are purposefully leaving those components behind for reasons known only to them, or they simply don't know what they're doing. Neither one of those possibilities is particularly comforting for the user.
I know of no way to recover from the effects of having used CleanMyMac than to completely erase the volume on which it was used, reinstall OS X and essential software from their original sources, and restore your essential work files and other documents from a backup that has not been corrupted by CleanMyMac or anything else.
MacKeeper on the other hand offers an effective uninstaller.
Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper. Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
If you actually used MacKeeper to alter your system, e.g. "remove excess binaries" or such, you will need to reinstall OS X as well as all your additional software. Uninstalling MacKeeper is insufficient to reverse the corruption it is capable of - once again, that is if you used it.
If you merely installed MacKeeper but did not use it to perform any particular action, the following instructions will suffice.
- If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
- Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
- Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
- Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice):
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it:
- Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.
