Q: MBA 13 Mid 2013 crash Black screen

Has anyone else encountered an issue where they are using their Mid-2013 MacBook Air (13in) on battery when the machine suddenly goes to sleep or appears to, but it has actually crashed. The screen is dark, keyboard and trackpad are not responsive and the keyboard backlight is on. You have to force it off to restart by pressing and holding the power button? It is completely random, not a kernel panic, and nothing I can see in any logs. After the recent firmware update the symptoms changed such that the display is still active since the Apple logo is lighted. I've never had it happen when I'm on a/c power. Unfortunately its random and infrequent too. The recent firmware indicated it helped with battery issues, etc. didn't fix mine apparently.

Mine went to Apple Repair a week ago. Just got my first black screen with moving mouse again.

So evidently taking it in for repair doesn't help either.

Guys I just got an update, they were SMC and EFI updates, and I think they were aimed to solve our issues.

Now, I reported that my problem was gone with the Mavericks update, but if anybody still has the issue, I thought I'd let them know (Okay, their Macs will let them know also, but I don't know...).

Does anyone who got the updates still have the problem?

I'm still seeing this issue with the latest Maverick updates.

This is on a Retina MacBook Pro, Mid 2012 with OS X 10.9.3 (13D65) (updated May 17).

I have an imac with 10.9.3, it went to sleep and couldn't come back with a hard reboot. Is this the same issue?

Had trouble all day with black screen (and last night).

Pram and other resets would not work at all. Had given up hope. I remember I read once to drop the computer from a low height onto the carpet. I know this is risky but I was at my wits end lol. I did this a few times from each side then repeatedly and fast hit my power button. Could not believe that the computer (macbook air) then came on!!!

Obviously people will say not to drop it from any height but it worked for me.
