Q: magic trackpad slow and jumpy

hi,

I wonder if anyone else has a similar problem. a search shows that a number of other people have complained about a slow and/or jumpy magic trackpad but what i'm experiencing doesn't seem to match any other incedences I've been able to find. My problem is:

  • purchased a brand new magic trackpad about eight weeks ago
  • first use was with a brand new mac mini last night
  • pointer movement is jumpy / slow to respond - basically unusable
  • paired a magic mouse and apple keyboard with the new mac mini. they were fine
  • paired the magic trackpad with a macbook pro. same slow/jumpy problem
  • checked / cleaned the trackpad surface - no difference

  1. doesn't seem to be a bluetooth problem - magic mouse is fine
  2. time machine is not running
  3. CPU is doing virtually nothing
  4. same problem on a different mac

does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong?

thanks

This is Apple's first call in this situation.

Trackpad or Magic Trackpad is jumpy or erratic

Cleanliness of the trackpad base and the working surface is essential.  No disrespect meant; some of us exude skin oil more than others.

Thank you for your reply. No disrespect taken. I have already been through that list (should have said so in the first post), and nothing helped. As mentioned, I have made sure that the trackpad is clean. Again, this is essentially a brand new track pad connecting to a brand new mac mini. The Mac Mini has no new software, and the trackpad is basically unused. The test with the Magic Mouse was to rule out interference. The mouse is fine - can we take it from that interference is not the cause?

Then, as a new trackpad, it is under warranty.   Take it back to your nearest Apple store or Premium re-seller.   They can test it on the spot and exchange it if it is not up to standards.   Make sure you have a copy receipt with you, that is all you need to establish a base for warranty.
