Q: macbook - erased HD - os upgrade apple id not working

HI -

I wanted to reset my macbook to factory - I erased the hard drive and now I am trying to restore it from the internet.

At first, I it wouldnt recognize my Apple ID for installing Lion. (I got the upgrade to Mavericks when I bought the computer)

Now, when I get to the area of picking what drive to install Lion to - my HD is not there.  I assume I'll have the same problem with the Apple ID once I get past here.

So if someone can please help with both problems - I'd appreciate it!!!

This is a Apple MacBook MC516LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop. 2.4ghz, 2GB Ram, 250 HDD. Originally Lion uograded to MAvericks.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    dravetmom,

the MC516LL/A order number corresponds to the Mid 2010 MacBook. Some of them originally came with Snow Leopard installed, and some of them originally came with Lion installed. If you got the upgrade to Mavericks when you bought the MacBook, does that mean that you’re not the MacBook’s original owner, since Mavericks was released 20 months after production of this MacBook ended? Did you receive two grey Apple-branded DVDs with the MacBook when you bought it? If you’re not the MacBook’s original owner, then it might have been originally equipped with Snow Leopard rather than Lion, and its original owner might have purchased Lion, in which case that copy of Lion is non-transferable from the original owner. If your MacBook originally came with Snow Leopard, and you didn’t receive its grey Snow Leopard installation DVDs, then you’ll need to contact Apple directly to purchase a replacement pair of grey discs. (They’re not available in the Apple stores.) Along with Snow Leopard, they contain its original set of iLife apps and its Apple Hardware Test. Once you’ve installed Snow Leopard (and associated the MacBook with your Apple ID) and have run Software Update to get to Mac OS X 10.6.8, you can then use the Mac App Store to download Mavericks, and then install Mavericks onto it.

All 2010 MBPs came with Snow Leopard installed.  Lion was introduced on July of 2011.

    Ciao.

    OGELTHORPE,

dravetmom has a Mid 2010 MacBook, not a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. According to this Apple page, some Mid 2010 MacBooks originally had Mac OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) installed.

The OP has a Macbook.  You are correct.  That indeed is possible that Lion was the original OSX.

    Ciao.
