May 30, 2014 5:05 AM in response to Nicgardner3by Lawrence Finch,Unfortunately, if you have never backed up your iPad to either your computer or to iCloud and you forgot your passcode lock there is no way to recover the data on it. Not with iTunes, not with any 3rd party app. The phone is encrypted using strong encryption so without a "trusted" (meaning previously synced iTunes) decryption key your data is unrecoverable. If there were a way around the passcode lock there would be no point in having it and iPhones/iPads would not be approved for secure corporate or government use.

May 30, 2014 6:13 AM in response to Lawrence Finchby JohnnyW2001,Lawrence, we're talking about the Restrictions passcode, not the phone lock. Edit: I see you were responding to someone else who got it wrong.
For anyone technically minded, you can simply decrypt your Restrictions passcode using this code:
http://hashcat.net/forum/thread-2892.html
No need to mess around with restores.
(Yes, as convinced as I was that my iPhone was bugged, it turned out I'd forgotten the code afterall.)

This assumes your iPhone backup is not encrypted. But it's a clever solution.

May 31, 2014 7:01 PM in response to Thepurplemurfinby xnunezdp,0000 as the restrictions passcode just worked for my son as well. Yay! We are now disabling the restrictions.

Jun 10, 2014 1:27 PM in response to StuartHby vksharma1,What I did was after the initial wipe and all,
DO NOT CLICK RESTORE FROM BACKUP.
Push set up as new iPod/iPhone/iDevice and then sign into your Apple ID. All your contacts will still be in the device and also, you can redownload apps from the Purchased section under Updates in the App Store

I entered 0000 two consecutive times. Presto. It worked.

Jun 14, 2014 1:09 AM in response to 4Dersonby lenadon, this helped me so much. ive been trying to guess my password for weeks and my only option (so it seemed) was to restore my phone to factory setting. i saw your thread and your instrcutions still seemed a little to "techy" for me so with the help of an amazing apple employe i was able to 'untech' your instructions.
i thought i had to download iBackupBot (which for an untechy person seemed a little daunting) but all i needed was back up files which can be found here
- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
i then followed your instructions and it worked a treat, so thank you!!!

Nov 9, 2014 11:02 AM in response to lenadonby 4Derson,Sorry that it looked complicated, but thanks for the info on where to find the file on a Mac.
With an unencrypted backup through iTunes, all that you need is the file name.
That looks like an odd file, but the iOS devices (or special software) know that is where the passcode is stored.
Very happy to know this has helped a few others!

Jun 26, 2014 3:25 AM in response to MillValleyiMacG5by Tetrachrome,Thank you, this has worked today on an iPad2 with iOS 7.1.1.
Used iBackupBot. It came up with lots of errors when I tried to use it with my iTunes backup. It only worked once I deleted all the backups in c:\users\name\appdata etc., and made a new backup with iBackupBot somewhere else. Edited restrictedpassword.plist as shown, and the password 1234 worked.

Jul 2, 2014 4:46 PM in response to StephRi0sby Poppy0411,Well the problem is this is school ipad if I erase it I will lose all my school work
StephRi0s wrote:
I did this also.
think i found a solution but you must know your apple ID and PW.
1. sign into icloud.com
2. once you are signed in click on "find my iphone" tab
3. click "all devices" on top of the page
4. click on the device you lost your passcode to.
5. once you do a couple of choices will come up "play sound" "lost mode" and "erase iphone"
click on the erase iphone. and it will begin to whip out your iphone.
6. once i was done i connected it back into my itunes and restored from my last backup. i was then
able to get into my phone and reset my passcode. :-)
hope this helps. i was so lost i thought i messed up big time lol.

Jul 14, 2014 6:17 AM in response to 4Dersonby MmeriC,Thanks heaps. Worked like magic. I was getting hopeless seeing solutions like "erase iPhone, restore from old backup in recovery mode", etc. I got iBackupBot, found the necessary keys, pasted into your webpage, started the engine and made myself a coffee. I started with code 0000, so it took a while but not that long...The last few sips of my coffee tasted awesome Thanks again...
