Jun 17, 2014 1:05 PM in response to MarthaAngelicaby sberman,See the "headphone port" section of this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10571
The headphone port on the MacBook Air accepts a 3.5mm standard plug, just as other Apple devices do.

Jun 17, 2014 1:29 PM in response to AustinJGibsonby MarthaAngelica,The hole is so small that you can't plug the headphone jack into it, I tried various headphones and none worked. They all work fine on all my other apple products but not the macbook air. The headphone hole is much smaller than the other devices. Any suggestions?

Jun 17, 2014 1:51 PM in response to sbermanby MarthaAngelica,Then there must be something wrong with my device, the hole is much smaller then the other devices. Guess I will have to take it to an apple store. Thanks

Jun 17, 2014 3:01 PM in response to MarthaAngelicaby PlotinusVeritas,The AIR, like all other Macs and nearly 100% (all actually) of notebooks have a 1/8th " stereo mini-jack for standard headphones.
check your headphones, MOST professional headphones now come with a LARGER jack that unscrews OFF the smaller one.
Youd have to go back to the early 1980s to find a permanent huge headphone jack on a pair of headphones (almost).

Jun 17, 2014 3:13 PM in response to PlotinusVeritasby MarthaAngelica,I just have the standard headphones, the ones that came with my IPhone 5S, the hole on the macbook air is really small, I have tried to push several different headphones in and they just won't go in and don't work. I matched the earphone hole with my other apple devices and it is much smaller.

Jun 17, 2014 3:53 PM in response to PlotinusVeritasby MarthaAngelica,LOL, I wish it was that, but the hole has an icon of headphones next to it, clearly it's not the wrong hole. Don't see any other holes either.

Jun 17, 2014 4:19 PM in response to MarthaAngelicaby MarthaAngelica,I have the 11 inch MacBook Air and the hole is next to the power cord attachment like the phone above, but it is so much smaller than the hole on my other Apple devices. I can plug my headphones to another Mac computor and IPhone etc but they won't go into the hole on the Air, just too small of an opening.

Jun 17, 2014 4:37 PM in response to MarthaAngelicaby OGELTHORPE,There may be something blocking the audio output port (broken jack?). Bring the MBA in to an Apple store genius bar and have them look at it. The evaluation will be FREE.
Ciao.

Nov 23, 2014 9:41 AM in response to MarthaAngelicaby Sophie_Jordan,I thought I was having the same problem but I just had to push my headphones in harder. I couldn't fit my headphone jack in all the way but with a bit more pressure it works fine. Hope this helps x
