Mine is the CCC version I believe but has the snap in adapter base and smartphone integration. Do you think this method would work in mine?

Do the BMW dealerships have the ability to do this?

    Please let me know.

Limit of my knowledge to be honest. I don't know what the CCC version has in terms of separate modules and configurable options.  Out of interest are you able to play music from your iphone or other device via USB? (this might imply that it's possible i.e. play music from a digital signal)  The software I am running does not tell me what modules are in any given car standalone, but will tell me exactly what is possible within seconds of hooking up to the car's OBD port.

From experience, dealerships either deny knowledge of these things, discourage coding non-standard options, or are unhelpful to say the least.  Might be worth a try though.

There are also commercial coding businesses out there, willing to make a small tweak in your cars software for a chunky fee (mostly changing certain comfort functions), so it might be worth finding one near you for a chat. They will know more than me!

    Good luck!

^^ That's the fix for this issue.

I can only see the 84212358659 available in Germany currently, and at around €190.  Here's a dodgy transaltion of the adapter description:

"With the snap in adapter for iphone 5/5S Music , we offer you constant accessibility and safety and the comfort of a personal entertainment program on board their vehicle. The adapter is a safe and solid storage system for mobile phones in the vehicle and is characterized by a particularly optimized charging function that is twice as fast compared to conventional charging via the USB port . In addition, it is ensured by a connection to the outside antenna the best possible reception for all sides good connections. In addition, the radiation is reduced in the interior of the vehicle to a minimum by the use of the external antenna.

"A USB interface allows you to play your stored music through the music system of the vehicle. Depending on the equipment of your BMW , the album art and track titles in the display of your vehicle can be displayed. An additional and complimentary BMW app more interesting additional features such as access to Twitter can be used. Furthermore, the adapter supports an analog audio signal .

"Continuous availability and a convenient and practical use is thus , in addition to the increased road safety , guaranteed. Fines for phoning at the wheel of a thing with the adapter on to the past . For questions about the compatibility of the adapter with their vehicle and on the question of whether the equipment of your vehicle supports all usable functions , we are happy to help you.

"The adapter supports the following functions : telephony, charging , analog audio signal ,

"The adapter fits the following vehicle equipment: SA6F music interface for smartphone"

All of those work with the USB lightning cable.

Ugh.  Same thing with the 659 part.  No album art, no apps.  This is really bad. The iphone5 has been out for almost 2 years and I paid a fortune to "upgrade" my 2011 328i conv. to be iphone compatible.  What a crock of ****.  My iphone 4 and snap-in adapter worked flawlessly.

    Anyone have any solutions?

I allready returned my 659, so I cannot try this. There was a new iOS update released today 7.1.1. Have you tried that?

I urge everyone in the US to contact BMW support at 800-831-1117 from 9:00 AM through 9:00 PM Monday-Friday (Eastern Time) or by e-mail anytime at customerrelations@bmwusa.com and open a case. State your VIN, model and year and ask when the iPhone 5s Music/Media adapter will be available for your car. I did this a couple of weeks ago and they would not answer my question but understood how upset I was to have a 2013 $102,000 BMW X5M with no iPhone 5s snap-in support.

The information below has been culled from BMW documents and Wikipedia:

    Apple® iPhone 5/5S       Phone                   84 21 2 351 307   $135.00

    Apple® iPhone 5/5S       Music/Media          2014 release       TBD

    Apple® iPhone 5/5S       Connect                84 21 2 351 308   $250.00

All Snap-in Adapters provide the following benefits:

    • Charging of the device
    • Secure and stable docking location
    • Vehicle specific mount
    • Improved reception by connecting to the vehicle’s external antenna

6NF - External connection of the music player/mobile phone

    6NR - BMW Apps

6NS - Convenience telephony with extended smartphone connectivity

CCC - Debuted in 2003 with the E60/E61 5-Series and is based on Wind River VxWorks, a real-time operating system. CCC stands for Car Communication Computer and uses a larger 8.8" wide-screen display.

CIC - Debuted in September 2008 with F01/F02 7-Series. CIC stands for Car Infotainment Computer and is manufactured by Becker, utilizing the QNX operating system.

NBT - BMW introduced a further update to the iDrive Professional System in late 2012, calling it the "Next Big Thing" (NBT). It was introduced in current generation cars as an option, including:

    • 1-Series F20
    • 3-Series F30
    • 5-Series F10
    • 7-Series F01

Snap-in Adapters are available in 4 distinct versions:

    • Phone –Charging and enhanced reception only used when retrofitting a base plate.
    • Music – For vehicles with SA 6NF produced up to 9/2010 (10/2010 for X5/X6)
    • Media – For vehicles with SA 6NF and 6NR produced from 9/2010 (10/2010 for X5/X6)
    • Connect – Specific to NBT (next best thing update to CIC) vehicles and support BMW APPS, these include many MY2013 SA 6NF 6NR optioned vehicles and most MY2014 SA 6NR 6NS vehicles.*

*CIC vehicles with SA 6NR and 6NS will not support audio out with the Connect device. These will require the soon to be released Music/Media device which is expected early 2014.

    The Music Snap-in Adapter adds:

    • Integrated USB connection which negates the need for a separate audio cable
    • Access to the music tracks stored on the Smartphone

The Media Snap-in Adapter includes the same as the Music, plus:

    • Display of “cover art”. With “cover art”, the applicable song’s original album cover will be displayed on the central information display.

The Connect Snap-in Adapter includes the same as the Media Snap-in Adapter.

Those having issues with the new 659 part, e.g. Fitzle, I do suggest trying the work-around in my earlier post.  Lots of helpful information above, thanks WildClyde...

A bit repetitive, but this is my setup (All factory-bulit, nothing retrofitted)

    - CIC system in a 2012 X5

    - Option 6NF - External connection of the mobile phone

    - Option 6NR - BMW Apps

With the iPhone 4S Media snap-in, I was able to play music and view album art perfectly.

With the iPhone 5S, I am now successfully using the Connect adapter 84 212 351 308.  Following a small tweak, I can play music and view album art perfectly.  This required a very minor change to the coding of the "media" module (ie configuration of the Combox via the OBD port) to allow the input of the digital audio signal from the Connect adapter, although getting set up to perform this "coding" can be quite involved.

In summary, I now have the Connect snap-in doing for me what the 5S Media snap-in should.

Chakravathy - I could provide a download of the .TRC file from my CIC combox, but it may not help much plus there are many other forums discussing BMW coding and this is not the right place.  I'm not sure that's what you're asking.

Want to thank alibell999 for his posting a month ago.  It pointed me in the right direction.  I finally got iPhone 5s to work with the snap-in cradle part number 84212351308 in my 2013 Mini Cooper.  Mini uses the same CIC system.  Everything works, album cover, music,  Mini Connected app (similar to BMW Connected app),etc.  Obviously Plug-in and Video are NOT supported due to the change with iPhone 5/5S lightning connector.  The lightning connector does not output video and Apple removed iPod-Out support in iPhone 5/5S.

Yes you do need to code your BMW/Mini to do this.  Like alibell999 indicated it is in the MEDIA (or Combox) module.  A simple change of the USB1_IPOD_AUDIO (6FL iPod/USB) or USB2_IPOD_AUDIO (6NR Smartphone Integration option) to digital will work.  USB1 is usually the USB and 3.5mm A/V jack in the armrest (Bimmer) and center console (for Mini).  USB2 is for the smartphone snap-in adaptor.

If you know how to code this is a 2 mins process.  I spent a few days reading up to make sure I am familiar with the process.  And I am glad that I figured it out.  I am now able to make other code changes to my car.

I picked up the new "Media" adapter for the 5S from the local dealership today.  Works as advertised in my '13 X5 iDrive 50.  FINALLY!
