Q: How to get label colors back on Maverick?

I realize "tabs" took it's place but all my business files are predicated on a carefully organized color file system. This was an awful decision for some of us. Any new apps to fill the void?

    Peter.  Peter.  Peter.

You obviously haven't read all of my post.  I have sent feedback!!

You're like Apple forever spinning Beach Ball. Please stop already if you can't be helpful.

When I said "We just need to find a way to get their attention" I wasn't just referring to "feedback" but …

You've done your "job". You've informed everybody and his uncle about feedback.

Please leave us to find a way.

    Thank you.

Jump up and down and scream or picket Apples offices. There are plenty of threads to moan in. Have been for a long time. But the only way to get their attention is by sending feedback to the proper channels. That's it. That is your question I was answering. The rest was just another rant which are useless here. Just masks people feel better for airing off. So you have three choices. Feedback, Feedback or Something like TotalFinder.

Oh and if you are getting the spinning Beachball so often then best start another thread as there is something wrong with your install or hardware. Nothing to do with coloured labels.

    So good luck

    Stay on topic!

    Pete,

I am not sure where you get the imformation to so emphatically (and repeatedly) state this, but you are mistaken. I have had Apple development teams contact me twice in response to posts I have written on these very forums.

I was certainly shocked the first time it happened. I had written about a problematic software issue and an Apple developer contacted me directly asking for more information and to submit some sample files so they could look into the problem. This same process happened again a few months later.

While I can not say how often this happens, which teams do it and which ones do not, it does indeed happen. I can say from first hand experience that Apple does use the forums for gathering user information. We all know the standard Feedback system is useful, but so is the process of this forum.

Believe what you will. It obviously hasn't worked.

Yeah JR - thread/forum is full of people who clearly have nothing but their ego to sort out.

To those whose need for coloured labelling stemmed from a complex workflow situation, I've found a solution that I'm happy with and mentioned above. I won't mention it again because the trolls inhabiting this thread keep making it difficult for new people arriving with their issues. The sarcasm and idiocy is astounding. I can only assume that sitting on their fat arses holding forth in this forum is their only joy/work/interest in life.

I'm currently working on a large feature film where the audio needs to be created almost from scratch due to the futuristic nature of the film. Thousands of files and folders representing different sound fx sessions of different spools/reels at different times of construction by different people (and we have a large crew) is the basis for a need to be able to spot files quickly visually. We have production audio files as well as post production. We work to different temporary mixes every couple of months as required by the company funding the film. Each temporary mix needs it's own set of files. We work toward a final mix where the sound re recordists coming into the job need to be able to work within the system, locating specifics without too much problem. The tags are an interesting development, but the visual nature labelling was a huge benefit for swift workflow. This has been noted to Apple and via other application developers we work with that use the Mac environment. I hope that future upgrades of the OS include labelling but if not there are many 3rd party people providing good resources.

Goodbye forum trolls. Hope you find a life.

    ~ A FREE AND EASY SOLUTION ~

People have mentioned using Path Finder as a solution. To me that is overkill. Costs is US$40.

Another solution mentioned is TotalFinder. I am not sure if they have added this feature yet. I guess they would have. Cost is (from memory) US$20

There is another free solution. Perhaps it has been mentioned. I don't have time to read every post.

Xtrafinder is basically a copy of TotalFinder. But it is free. I used it to restore the label (tag) colors on file names (the way it was pre-Mavericks).

You can get it from here: http://www.trankynam.com/xtrafinder

You'll need to change the preferences... You need to turn on "Legacy label color painting".

You'll need to kill the Finder process. Then start Xtrafinder again. The new Finder window should now show the colors they way we are accustomed to.

You can kill Finder by doing that in the Activity Monitor, or the Command Prompt, or by restarting your computer.

I trust this solves this for all of you once and for all. Did I mention it is free? Yes. Great.

    Regards,

(just posted this in order to get direct link to my previous post... but now there's no obvious way to delete it. Great forum system, Apple). Please ignore.

By the way... I've posted a write-up on this easy solution over here: http://best-mac-tips.com/2014/06/26/color-labels-highlight-mavericks/

YYes. So have the developers. I know who I would trust reading. But thanks for the effort, even though it's been suggested a hundred times before.

    Cheers

    Pete
