    On June 14, BMW USA released two new snap-in adapters for the iPhone 5/5s:

    Music 84 21 2 358 659

    Media 84 21 2 289 717

    My dealer in San Francisco has stock.

    They also have iPhone 5/5s Y cables as well.

    The BMW USA bulletin that describes this is B-13-0614-8401

    This is the adapter that I have been waiting for to be used in my 2013 X5 M.

    I purchased and installed the new snap-in Media adapter (84 21 2 289 717) in my 2013 X5 M (CIC). This is a progress report. The first time that I used the phone with the new Media adapter the Media adapter and phone could not be found in the iDrive CD/Multimedia menu. I turned off Bluetooth on the iPhone and still the Media adapter/phone could not be found. I tried several other combinations no avail and so I exited the car, locked it up and abandoned the project for the night. I tried again the next morning and everything worked great even with Bluetooth enabled on the iPhone. Apparently the new Media adapter is only discovered when the car awakes from a deep sleep?

    Music plays through the snap-in adapter and the iPhone can be controlled through iDrive. Cover-art shows on the control display. BMW Apps appear under Connected Drive. All this even with Bluetooth enabled.

    Life is good. If only BMW could have released this product a year ago.

    I wonder what BMW's support for the iPhone 6 support will be like? ;-)

    What about video?

    I tried playing an iTunes track with video (Kings of Leon - Wait For Me). The song plays and after a few seconds one frame of the video shows on the Control Monitor. That's all. See the attached photo.

    The Video Icon on the left of the screen is greyed out.

    Alas, video does not seem supported unless there is something I am missing.IMG_2839.jpg

    iPhone 4 with snap-in does because its output is analog. iPhone 5 with snap-in doesn't because its output is digital and video output is not compatible with BMWs snap-in/iDrive. Also we can't use the plug-in module. With Apple's cable we get what all iPhone 5 snap-in is capable of.

    alibell999, Please confirm what works when you use the Connect snap-in with CIC and have USB2_IPOD_AUDIO set to digital:

    Music = yes

    Cover art = yes

    BMW APPS = ?

    Video = ?

    Thanks

    Hello - just seen this ^^

    WildClyde, sorry for the delay! This is what I get using the Connect snap-in with CIC and have USB2_IPOD_AUDIO set to digital:

    Music:  YES

    Cover art: yes

    BMW apps: yes (dependent on option 6NR being installed)

    Video: no

    Analogue video output is not provided by the iphone 5, and the CIC cannot accept a digital video signal, so there is no workaround.

    Hi Peter,

    May I know exactly what is that "B/T snap in"? Is that an OEM or 3rd-party product? If 3rd-party, What are the details of it, such as brand name, model, pricing, etc.?

    Thanks in advance!

    This post is old, but problem still exists for me.  My issues is that the controls do not work unless I hit play ON THE PHONE FIRST.  Its really weird and annoying.  I can control playback of music fine, just can initially start playback from iDrive.  Also once playing if the playback is stopped due to function switch, phone call or navigation, I have to start it again from the phone.  Very annoying.

    since you give no clues as to your BMW /IOS/iPhone set up ,I suggest you trawl through the thread to see the responses to others with which ever set up you also have

    This view of iPod is just like plugging in the USB cable.  I purchased a Snap In Adapter for the iPhone 4, and it shows the entire iTunes menu, but the Snap in Adapter for the iPhone 5 does not detect the same way as the one for the iPhone 4.  It connects via Multimedia, but not through Connected Drive.  In Connected Drive it says no Snap in detected.  I guess I'll keep my retired iPhone 4 as an iPod in the Snap in Adapter and my iPhone 5 as my phone w/ BMW Apps connected via USB.
