Q: FCPX 10.1 cannot toggle snapping, skimming

Installed 10.1 and started to playing with it.  Cannot turn on skimming, snapping, audio skimming, clip skimming etc in ether the menu or the buttons. The button turns blue for a fraction of a second when I click on it, but won't stay blue.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I had the same problem on my computer.

I fixed it by deleting the "com.apple.FinalCutPro.[host-ID-string].plist" file from ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder, restarting the computer, and emptying the Trash before starting FCPX 10.1.

This worked a treat for me.

    Thanks Tim.

YES!!  This worked for me too.  I wish there was a way to propogate your excellent answer to all the dozen or so other forum threads I have been scouring the past few hours.  There are too many sneaky plists lurking in the bowels of the library

I've just noticed that I'm having the same problem. Can't say when it occurred as I rarely bother with snapping and skimming.

I've trashed prefs, Layouts and Reverted to default layout with no success.

I also tried to tray the  com.apple.FinalCutPro.[host-ID-string].plist  file but there was no sign of it in the By Host folder.

Launching FCP X with a different User cures the problem  .  .  for that user!

Eureka! Just managed to get the functions back but can't be sure why.

After I trashed the prefs originally there was a file in the trash which refused to be deleted saying it was in use by something.

Although I shutdown FCP X several times it still refused to be delete so I ignored it.

A few minutes ago I  Restarted my iMac and then I was able to empty the trash.

When I launched FCP X everything was back to normal.

So was it trashing the prefs and finally emptying the trash that cured it  .  .  .  we will never know for certain!

    Hi all,

I found something that worked for me !

Go to this location : ~/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro

Just delete the "Layouts" folder and its content and restart FCP.

Did the trick for me !

    Hope this helps,

    Torp

I'm having the same issue. It would do this off and on before Yosemite, but it's hard core since. Has anyone figured this out? If I don't get this fixed soon, I'm going to have to move to another NLE, which I am loathe to do.

What "Layouts" folder? I don't have one of those where you said it would be found or anywhere else.

FInder search won't find Layouts unless to tell it to include system files in the search. You sure you're going to the home Library.
