I had this problem. Here's what I did:
1. Check network allows sharing (which it did)
2. Make sure latest iTunes update is installed (currently 11.1.3)
3. Turned router off. Waited 20seconds and rebooted router
4. Opened iTunes
5. Edit-->preference-->sharing and tick "share my entire library"
6. Turned on homesharing
7. Opened Remote app on my iPhone
8. Remote appeared as an app in the same box as my iPhone on iTunes screen (see below)
I can't help you further than that I'm afraid
Hi,
Thanks mine is solved now.
I cannot find anything in sharing menu (Edit-->preference-->sharing) at the first.
After I enable and start "bonjour" I can find the "share my entire library". I enable it through start->run-> services.msc and then I start it.

Sep 21, 2014 9:34 AM in response to ferdianpby matthewfromnew malden,I've been sitting here for 1.5 hours getting really annoyed. My solution included resetting (not factory reset) my Apple TV and reinstalling the iPhone Remote app, signing in and out of Home Sharing in iTunes on my Mac etc, etc.
Eventually, I did a hard reset on my phone and afterward I loaded the Remote app and suddenly my devices are all there (in my case Apple TV and my iTunes library.)
It's so simple it seems that it's not going to work, but ultimately I turned everything off and on again and it worked.
I really hope this helps anyone else out there.

The remote won't display in iTunes until you launch the app from your smart phone and select add itunes library, it will then appear as below.
If it doesn't appear, for me i disabled the firewall which was Norton. After disabling the firewall, restart iTunes, restart the app on the smart phone and it all worked. I then enabled the firewall and it kept working.

Mar 8, 2015 9:30 AM in response to peppercby deejxvii,i cant find the remote button either. but, instead of using the "device" option when setting up the remote, you use the "home sharing" option and it works.

Mar 13, 2016 12:14 PM in response to peppercby roysud,Try a few things here (Windows only):
1. Check if the "Bonjour" service is running. If not, please start it by going to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.
2. Restart iTunes. Go to Edit>Pref.>Devices. If you see a message about Bonjour service not working/started. try step 1. If you see a message stating that there are no Remotes paired, it means you are now ready to connect using the Remote app for iTunes.
4. Relaunch the Remote app on your i-device and get the 4-digit code. Now, you should see the Remote device name in the list of devices in the top left of iTunes, among the icons.

May 27, 2016 4:23 AM in response to peppercby drex223,If you are trying to pair device on iTunes, here's what I figured out:
There is no standalone 'Remote Button'. However, when you click to pair device on the iPhone app, go in iTunes under your devices button (where your iphone/ipod/ipad will usually show up). The remote will be an option.
APPLE IS TERRIBLE AT GIVING INSTRUCTIONS!!!

Sep 9, 2016 7:57 PM in response to peppercby Darth_Proteus,The remote button will appear at the top of the screen next to the music tab AFTER you click the "pair device" button on the remote app. This confused me forever as well.
