Q: Blu-Ray burning error after Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 update.

I upgraded Final Cut Pro X to 10.1.2  I can no longer burn blu-ray.  I get an error message "Either the video file or the audio file were an invalid format".  I get the same message sharing through Final Cut or through Compressor.  Please help!

Standard DVD burning in FCP still works fine.

Yes standard DVD burning works for me also. Only affecting the blu-ray burning ability.

I have a few macs to test. It seems like it hangs at the crreate iso / blu-ray phase. Not sure if its the rendered file or the burning software causing the issue.

I have 2 macs where i did not update and they still work perfectly fine and are able to create blu-rays. The problem is absolutely as a result of the latest update, either something in the rendered file is not correct as a result of a particular timeline element (or ?) or the burning software, etc.

I have not tried the toast solution, but would like to hear if the toast solution works for projects already updated to the latest version so we can just render a file and use toast for creating the blu-ray.

JJust to confirm Glenn that you were not able to make a disk image either, is that correct?

I am having the exact same problem.  And yes it won't make an image file or burn a disc.   This sets me back again.  Now I need to author in Encore.

Thats correct. Not able to make a disc image or burn to blu-ray. The problem appears to happen at the create disc stage. The error is saying "There was an error creating your disc image. Either the video file or the audio were not in a valid format."

Above the error mentioning "disc image" when sharing to disc image option is used.

Tom are you an Apple staffer?  I ask because you seem to be the guru of the chat, and I'm wondering how these community dialogues regarding bugs get the attention of the programmers to get crackin' on fixes.  Would be great to get an idea of how long it might be before the problem is solved.  Anyone can chime in on that if they know.  Thanks!

No, I do not work for Apple.

Use feedback to report problems or make feature requests.

Without knowing what causes a problem that only effects some users and not others there is absolutely no way to tell how long it will take to fix, and whether the fix is solely within FCP or with integration with a core system component or specific hardwaerre.

I went and got Toast 11, but you have to get the plug-in in order to burn blu-rays... and then I still had an issue. Total pain. Hopefully they get this fixed ASAP as the only other thing I can think of is going out and buying Adobe Encore which is absurd.

I found the same thing on my initial try to burn a Bluray disc.

This same issue occurred in a previous version of FCP X, except it was the DVD option that failed.

It stalled at the 66% stage, this is when the audio and video files are created for burning and now the Hand Over stage is reached where FCP X gives the burning job to Create Disc.

The same thing appears to be happening in the new 10.1.2 version with the Bluray export/share option.

I tried the same tricks as in the older version to kick start the Bluray burning feature and mine is now working.

Once the feature works, it switches on the process (have no idea what it switches on) and it seems to be fine from there on, I suspect if the FCP X Preferences are trashed it might be back to the drawing board.

The trick is to get to the Share Bluray window and select the Background option and then cancel it.

Do the same for Logo and Title Graphics.

Set up the other fields as required and hit the Share button.

I have the Create Disc icon in my Dock so I can call it up quickly and check on what it's doing.

The icon will animate according to the stage of burning.

    Hope this works for you.

Al that's amazing.  How in the world did you figure out this wild workaround??  Thanks for the tips!

Re other poster's question about Toast, it works great for me burning a BD from an H.264 master file of my project.  In fact, I have to say that Toast makes a better looking, better sounding disk than FCPX.  Strange but true - and perhaps due to the H.264 intermediate transcode step.  At any rate, there's better color and contrast and higher volume from Toast.  Downside is that it seems to take longer to transcode and burn than FCPX.

That problem with burning DVDs was exactly that -- the link to a previously chosen photo was no longer perfected, but Create Disc would stall trying to find it.

I have this exact same issue after the weekend update.
DVD's burn through Compressor. All 3 of my Macs have the issue.

What I've been doing  is first export a source file (.mov) from FCPX, then take it into Compressor 4.1.2 and as the Create Disc program starts to run I receive this popup:

There was an error burning your disc.

Either the video file or the audio were not in a valid format.

The reason I don't export straight from FCPX to BRD is because if the Compressor side in FCPX export fails, I don't have a source file to keep as an archive.

Is it a good idea to rollback on the updates if this doesn't work?

Also would like to add my versions:

    Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1

    Compressor 4.1.2

Thanks to everyone for the help and the information about possible work arounds.

Unfortunately I'm still having an issue and the blu-ray burn process still fails at what appears the handoff stage to create disc.

Accessing the background, logo graphic and title graphic (work around) like mentioned above did not work for me

Wanted to mention again... only a problem for Blu-ray burning.
