Q: Wi-fi in Windows 7 Bootcamp drops after a few seconds

Hi there, I'd be really grateful for any help or advice anyone could offer me.

I just bought a 27" iMac (2013, Haswell) and have set up a Windows 7 Professional Bootcamp on the hard drive. I installed the Apple support driver pack and everything seems to be working fine. Everything that is, except wireless internet in Windows 7.

When I first boot into Windows 7 the wi-fi works perfectly. It connects to my router, it can load websites and begin downloads. But usually after about 10 seconds to a minute the taskbar wi-fi icon will have an ! next to it and no websites or downloads will work. To be clear, the wi-fi works perfectly in OSX (Mavericks) and for a few moments it works just as well in Windows.

I have checked my device manager and the driver for the Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter is present and accounted for, not to mention all the other drivers that suggest the Apple Bootcamp pack installed correctly. Downloads in particular seem to make it break faster - when I run Windows network diagnostics on it to get it fixed it says 'Troubleshooting has completed: The connection between your access point, router or cable modem and the Internet is broken Detected !, and The default gateway is not available Fixed *tick*'). This makes the connection work again but only for a few minutes...

I have done a lot of googling and there seem to be several problems with Windows 7 wireless in Boot Camp, but I can't seem to find my particular problem (where it obviously works, but something interferes) or any working method to solve it.

Thanks very much for your time.

Hi There - I have exactly the same problem. New iMac 27'' (Late 2013) - WiFi fine in OSX Mavericks - does not lose internet connection at all. However when using boot camp to boot into Windows 7 internet works initially and then drops within a minute. Drivers for Broadcom 802.11ac Network adapter appear to be installed correctly - version 6.30.223.75

You had the issue a couple of months back - wonder if you found a fix?

    Thanks

    Paul

    Hi Mermantle.

I'm afraid I never got any response about my problem and no attempts to help me fix it. I ended up sending my iMac back because of this and got a refund - used half the money to build a more powerful pc instead.

I'm really sorry I don't have good news for you but I truly hope you find a fix for this really annoying problem.

    All the best!

I've been having this problem for months (i.e., since I updated the MAC side of my computer to be exact). I've read hundreds of forum posts and tried all the suggestions I've been able to find. Nothing helps.

I'm getting really close to giving up and getting a Windows computer. Every post I read that indicates that Apple won't help resolve this issue pushes me 10% closer to the decision to switch computers. One of the main reasons I wanted a MAC was so that I could run both operating systems. If I can't do that, seems silly to pay $2000 to not fulfill my original goal.

I just started experiencing this on my 13' MBPR running W7 via Bootcamp a few days ago. I came here to post about my issue and low and behold others are having the same exact problem. Basically, it connects upon boot, but after a few minutes of browsing the web I usually get a notification that my network printer is no longer available (indicative of no internet). The connection to the router is always fine, it is the ability to access the internet that drops off. Often I too have the little ! in the network icon and the status says "No internet access"

As a matter of fact, as I type this message the connection has dropped.

This is happening to me too, on my 15" MBPR running Windows 8.1 via bootcamp. Nothing changed, besides the update Apple released a few days ago for OSX that changed some wi-fi stuff.

In my case some things keeps working, like Skype or the VPN connection with my work.

    Very annoying!!!

There are too many variants to this problem, to have a one-size-fits-all solution. You may want to start a new discussion and post specifics of your environment and the issue. Allowing Windows to update drivers is fraught with issues. It replaces perfectly good Apple drivers and is unstable thereafter.

Can you check Windows Update History and see what this update's description shows? I do not see this on microsoft.com.

However, based on your screen shot I can see http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/958488. This is a .NET update.

also this is what shows when the yellow ! sign shows on wifi bars.  I have to -troubleshoot- option so it gets connected again...

    Issues found Detection details

6 The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken Detected

The network gateway is accessible, but Windows couldn’t receive network traffic from the Internet.

6 The default gateway is not available Fixed

The default gateway is a device that connects a local network or computer to the Internet. A broadband modem or router is usually the default gateway.

I read something about ''netsh winsock reset'' on cmd but since this is bootcamp windows I havent tried anything like this yet. as you can see It's like the first post, same issue, only on bootcamp win, OS X connection wont drop .

You have a local connection to your Wireless Access Point but the upstream router/gateway is unable to pass traffic past it. Can you describe your network topology?

You may be better off using ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. Winsock reset is going to reset Network Adapter, which is not necessary. In your Device Manager -> Network Adapter, what are the entries? OS X has a completely different driver, so a comparison can lead to erroneous conclusions.

Here is an example on my machine with some additional windows for driver versions. Can you post what you have?
