Q: apple tv - no airplay

Apple TV (black version) with 6.2 software (June 2014).  Iphone 4 with 6.1.3 was fine a few weeks ago but now no more airplay - no sign of the button on iphone in Music/Videos/You Tube app/ iPhoto etc...

Does this statement (from Apple TV software 6.1):

"Adds a security option to require that iOS devices or Macs be verified with a one-time, onscreen code before using AirPlay. Requires iOS 7.1 or later on an iOS device or a Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later"

mean Apple TV no longer supports Airplay for older iphones?

I am in the same boat. I work for a company that uses ipads to wirelessly project to mounted projectors. After this weeks update the apple tv's no longer show up as available devices. The difference we are having is that we are all running 7.1.2 on our ipads and our apple tv's are updated to the latest update. HELP!!! as this is how we get things done at work! Our IT department is trying but running into no problems on our end.

Have you tried the troubleshooting tips?

iOS: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring

    If on wifi try ethernet

Get a report of the network (istumbler or netstumbler) to verify strength and if there is any noise detected.

iphone4 don't support airplay mirror at all

most apps which supported the older form of trout have since dropped support for the feature

and now rely on airplay mirror

THanks folks. I have tried all those tests except the Ethernet but the tv is Internet capable and has no issues with wifi signal. Both the phone and ATV are on same network and show full strength signals. Bar the update, this set up is exactly as it was pre update a few weeks ago when I could stream photos and YouTube from iPhone to ATV. Without problems.

I'M having the same problem, after updating my iPad 2 to iOS 7.1.2.

I Have no Airplay icon in the control panel (swipe up from bottom of screen on iPad where the brightness controls are.)

I have an older Apple TV but also recently updated it to the latest software, and Airplay IS turned on.

i Have tried re-booting both the iPad 2 and Apple TV and still nothing has worked.

Very frustrating problem. I hope someone can help us.

Other devices working does not rule out a network issue, neither does the signal strength on the device itself. You need to get a report via istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to see the signal for the network as well as any noise detected. You can also try ethernet, as suggested, to help rule out a wifi issue.

Issues can come about at any time

You would need to run diagnostics for the network by getting a report via istumbler

Thanks for your comment and instructions.... It seems just a few people are experiencing this and it is not a wide problem, so I will have to spend more time troubleshooting. I do not know anything about networks though. Other than re-setting it by powering it up / turn off / turn on. So I guess I'll have to learn more about it. In the meanwhile I can use the iPad to HDMI cable I have to hook it to my tv and bypass the Apple TV altogether.

Thanks for your Help! I appreciate it!

I have the identical problem - things were fine until I updated to iOS 7.1.2 on my iPad.  I also have followed every suggestion (except the Ethernet one) - including doing a reset on my Apple TV and going through the entire reset process again.  I have lost the icon on my ipad.  I rented movies through iTunes and I want to watch them on my TV before they expire!

You will need to get a report of the network and try Ethernet.

Note: if the movies were rented on the iPad they can only be viewed there

Thanks, Andrew.  I assumed I could watch the movies on my TV with mirroring - is that not true?

What do you mean by "get a report of the network"?
