Q: Blu-Ray burning error after Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 update.

I upgraded Final Cut Pro X to 10.1.2  I can no longer burn blu-ray.  I get an error message "Either the video file or the audio file were an invalid format".  I get the same message sharing through Final Cut or through Compressor.  Please help!

    Thanks for that info.

Since my last post, I have updated all apps/Maverick to their most current versions.

I have gotten through to Apple's Phone Tech support after telling them we own several Mac Pros. Seems that they will transfer you to someone who knows something if you own more than one of their products.

I was transferred to many people before finally reaching a woman who gave me a workaround which we were already practicing (exporting the FCPX project to Master File then into Compressor to author). We tested this again last night and it didn't work. The Apple lady said she is getting a team together to work on this problem and I am currently awaiting that phone call back.

Any recommended alternatives to BRD authoring that also includes the chapter markers that are in our Master Files?
I will be hunting down a program today since this is halting my production line.

Bonus info: I have deleted the Compressor's folder and rebooted, which we tested authoring after this and came up with the same error. Instructions to do that are here: Compressor 4.1: Basic troubleshooting.

Not sure I understand the "bonus info". After trashing the Compressor folder in Application Support, you still get an error message when you use Compressor?

Sorry, yes Russ H. The same exact error appeared.

I am in direct contact with Apple now through that lady in my previous post. She has a team that she has assembled to look at this problem.

My office is currently doing tests with her and I will update accordingly.

In other news, SUCCESS! The old Compressor (Version 3.5.3) installed with FCP7 burns BR discs! One of our BRD players does not start the disc, but the others do including our Mac Pros. We are troubleshooting by duplicating the BR disc to see if the source BR disc was bad.

That BR disc copy did work. Must have been a defective BR disc. So the Compressor 3.5.3 workaround is working so far. We are watching the BR all the way through now.

Toast 11 is working too from masterfile with capitals. But in Toast the capitals are without discriptions - but better than nothing

It's great the legacy version came through for you.

You're also running the  FCS suite on 10.9, or is it on an earlier OS?

@nordheide: Yes. We were thinking of using Toast, but weren't sure if the imbedded chapter markers in the Master File would transfer to Toast. Also heard it takes 15 hours to author. Is that what you mean when you say "with capitals"?

    @Russ H: The versions are:

    Maverick OS X 10.9.4

FCPX 10.1.2 (Exports Master File fine)

    Compressor 4.1.2 (Not Burning BRD)

Compressor 3.5.3 (Burns BRD with Chapter Markers still intact)

Extra Note: Compressor 3.5.3 does take double time (about 15 hours for a 2+ hour BR) than the Compressor 4.1.2 does.

On a tangental note, does anyone know how to play a Blu-ray disk image on a Mac? Is there any, preferably free, software that will do that?

    Thanks.

I use Macgo - Mac Bluray Player, it is not a free app but I've used it without issue for a few years.

You can try a free test drive and I notice it's $20 off at the minute.

Burnt a disc Image just now using FCP X 10.1.2, opened it up with Mac Bluray Player and played it OK.

I did have initial problems after the 10.1.2 update getting the Bluray burning side of things going but once started it now seems to operate as it should.

Al, You are absolutely right. It's been neutered! (They must have had a lot of confidence that the handoff was no longer going to be an issue.)

Apologies to everyone for the obsolete advice. I should have checked,

    Russ

Looks to me like something is still amiss with handoff.

I loved the recents list as you could make more discs straight up. I do not understand WHY Apple axed it???

Now I have to fiddle around or use Toast to duplicate.

TThanks Al. Used the trial. Not going to buy though because I so don't care about silver discs any more.
