Q: Substitute for Lazy Mouse

Mavericks is working fine, but the upgrade has left my beloved Lazy Mouse dead.

Is there any application like Lazy Mouse - which automatically moves the cursor from any part of the screen to the click area?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

    However, as Old Jewel software suggests, they stopped updating the software with 10.6.

    I wanted to check to see what was happening with this software, as I've been a happy user for years now, currently running Lion on a MacBook4,1. I was disappointed to find that the author let the Old Jewel domain name expire and now it's one of those link-squatter pages.

    I'm baffled that any version of OS x does not include this as a standard feature.

    Yeah, no kidding! Snap-to default mouse button has been a feature in Windows since at least NT4. When I got my first MacBook back in 2007, the lack of this feature drove me nuts until I found LazyMouse.

    I've been searching for just exactly this!!  Their website is no longer active via macupdate... anybody have any ideas?  Subistutes?  I'm about to have to do 1600 repetitive actions that can only be done manually and each one requires that I click a default dialog box option.. please!?

    The options you reference do not seem to do the one thing I want - go to a default dialog button on a window. I don't need help finding my cursor.  Or am I misreading the FAQ's for these products?

    yup System Preferences Crashes. but

    if u already purchase the app and have the llicence file present in /Lib

    and dont want to change ur Preferences .

    just run ~/Library/PreferencePanes/LazyMouse.prefPane/Contents/Resources/L azyMouseBG.app

    it will work ..

    if llicence is already activated then u can also change the app Preferences from

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.oldjewel.lazymouse.plist

    if u r like me and using this app from Mac 10.3 then .

    these are your llicence files .

    ~/Library/Preferences/oldjewel.lazymousereg

    ~/Library/Preferences/lazymouse.reg

    Found my files and added them back. It's not going to default button but goes to cancel. At least it's close now.

    i still haven't managed to find a way to make it work.

    i'm using 10.9.3 mavericks and lazymouse 2.5

    i have added/Library/PreferencePanes/LazyMouse.prefPane/Contents/Resources/LazyMouseBG .app in the login items and the process runs but the cursor does not move

    when i try to open the prefpane i can see before it crash that the "move to default button" option is selected

    any help would be highly appreciated.

    note : i can make it work if i run  :  nohup /Users/<user>/Library/PreferencePanes/LazyMouse.prefPane/Contents/Resources/Laz yMouseBG.app/Contents/MacOS/LazyMouseBG > /dev/null 2>&1 &

    but only if i do it manually, i can't make it work from adding it to startup

    I had to set up a new Mavericks system, and while I have the original registration code available, I don't have these files in my ~/Library/Preferences

    Is there any hope also for me?

    YES!

    Anybody who still has their original registration mail can easily create these files using any text editor.

    In ~/Library/Preferences/oldjewel.lazymousereg, enter your registered user name.

    In ~/Library/Preferences/lazymouse.reg, enter your registration code.

    In both cases, do NOT press enter at the end of the line. Just enter the information, save the file and you're done.

    BTW, you can just download LazyMouse 2.5 directly from MacUpdate.com. Registration is another story, unfortunately.

    Thank you so much for granting this layman access into such an exclusive club... ;-)  My LazyMouse works again.

    But when I tried to fiddle a little bit with the App preferences...

    "open ~/Library/Preferences/com.oldjewel.lazymouse.plist

    change 'snapToAlternateButtonInstead' to NO"

    ...and installed TextWrangler (sort of a free BBEdit Lite), I was immediately lost. The com.oldjewel.lazymouse.plist appeared like the following and I didn't know how to change something:

    ...

    <key>playsSoundOnMove</key>
    <false/>
    <key>snapToAlternateButtonInstead</key>
    <false/>

    </dict>

    I suppose, that the above "NO" was allegorically meant and that I had to remove the XML <false> in the line below snapToAlternateButtonInstead, but I was not able to do even that without getting strange messages when trying to save the file.

    Is there a display option for TextWrangler suitable for laymen, or a different editor? If not, how do I then change this in the right way within TextWrangler?

    Thank you for your patience.

    Your text editor seems to be doing everything correctly. The issue is that a PLIST file is actually an XML-formatted file. So, while it's just plain text, it has all those funky keys and whatnot in it.

    The <false/> is already a 'no' value for the key above it. So, that seems right. As for getting strange messages, I'm guessing that you need to edit the file with administrator privileges. PLIST files are system files and need to be edited as such.
