Jul 14, 2014 11:03 PM in response to Apple4Ever556by babowa,Byron - if you have a problem and then update to a new OS, then the problem might even get bigger or worse. So that won't work. The only way to make 100% sure would be to erase your whole hard drive and reinstall from scratch - which shouldn't be necessary here.
If you want to try to get rid of the things that are left, go ahead - it's best to check with them how to uninstall it. Some have uninstallers and some you can just throw certain things in the trash - but they're all different.

I have never observed that to happen myself and it's been rare to hear it from others. Normally problems like this continue or worsen with a System Update.

Jul 15, 2014 1:38 AM in response to Apple4Ever556by Csound1,Your Mac is so heavily loaded with junk that the sensible course of action is to erase the entire drive and reinstall, the way this is going you won't get rid of everything that you should and you may get rid of things that you shouldn't (like gatekeeper).
Backup your data, erase the drive and stat over. Once that is done give yourself a standard rather than admin account on the Mac. It will be safer that way.

Jul 15, 2014 11:18 AM in response to Csound1by babowa,Step by step instructions will be needed.
Byron does have an external hard drive (G drive) and he formatted it correctly a couple of years ago. I do not know if/what he has on there now - I asked him, but he hadn't answered that question yet.
@ Byron:
what exactly do you have stored on your G drive right now?

Jul 15, 2014 7:19 PM in response to Apple4Ever556by babowa,Wonderful! Now, just to be sure that your clone works, try this:
Have the external hard drive plugged in to the iMac. Go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and choose your external drive (if it's listed) - whatever name you gave it. Highlight it and then click on restart. That'll take a while; wait until it loads the normal desktop picture and then try to open one or two apps or folders just to see that they open as expected. If it all works, go back to System Prferences and now choose your internal hard drive again. Click restart again and pretty soon you'll be back to your normal internal drive.
Next, unplug the external hard drive. Then, when you're ready, we can help you erase your hard drive and reinstall the OS. Let me know when that is and I or one of the others will post instructions, ok?

Jul 15, 2014 9:04 PM in response to Apple4Ever556by babowa,Okay, this is what should happen: after you erase your hard drive in the recovery mode (we'll explain exactly what to do), you then do a fresh install. That way, your computer will have a fresh install of the Mac OS.
Normally, when you start to install, you can automatically bring back all your files, but I'm not sure we want to do this in this situation because you might bring back some of the bad stuff, so I'm going to check on it to see what the best way is to only bring back your stuff including your iTunes.
So sit tight for right now, okay?
