Q: Pismo: USB 2.0 thumb drive - will it work at all?
Greetings all
I need to archive <= 30GB of Quicktime MOVs - cheaply. There some in the batch that I can live without archiving, but I would rather just drop 'em all on a thumb drive and not do Spring Cleaning first.
I know Pismo has USB 1.1 hardware. It seems that all the thumb drives online state USB 2.0. are USB 2.0 and/or 3.0 backward compatible to USB 1.x like the Philips standard = CD < CDROM < CDROM-RW < DVD < etcetera?
If not, any reliable source for vintage USB 1.1 thumb drives? All my in-site searches for USB " 1.1 " yield USB 2.0 & 3.0 results (?)
Thanx in advance

It will work without issue.
You may have heard that USB 2.0 is backward-compatible with USB 1.0/1.1 (Full-Speed USB). While that’s true, USB 1.1 is also forward-compatible with USB 2.0.
USB 1.1 allowed a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second. It is now obsolete, but both of its speeds (1.5Mbps & 12Mbps) were adopted into USB 2.0. I recommend buying a 2.0 device so as to save a little money. It looks like you won't even take advantage of 2.0. 1.0 and 1.1 are obsolete, that's why you won't find one for sale in retail. it's not worth buying a used device as NAND can wear out.
Purchase a 2.0 device and you will be fine.
