Jul 18, 2014 12:51 PM in response to turingtest2by Earnie42,Yes I could reassign the drive letters but I'm concerned that will affect other programs on that drive. Could I download and re-install the full iTunes program to E drive? How would I keep the songs and playlists?

Jul 18, 2014 12:55 PM in response to Earnie42by turingtest2,iTunes should be installed to the system drive, which is normally drive C: Are you getting an error when you try to install it? if so perhaps the user tip "Invalid drive X:\" install errors might apply. Once iTunes is installed and will open we can help with getting it connected to the correct library, if it doesn't do so already, or fixing any problems that it might have locating content.

Jul 18, 2014 1:08 PM in response to turingtest2by Earnie42,I do not install programs on the same drive as the OS. Win7 is on C. All other programs were on D until I changed the motherboard. Somehow D drive became E. I have iTunes installed and it works fine. If iTunes tries to update, it fails since it wants to install the update to D which has zero storage space.
I can uninstall iTunes and re-install to E drive. I just would like to keep the playlists and other configuration. Is there a file I can save for the playlists?

The iTunes application normally installs components in Program Files and Program Files (x86) on 64-bit machines. Those folders are normally inside the system drive, which is typically the same as the boot drive. The iTunes library is normally created at <User's Music>/iTunes. If all content has been stored inside the default media folder of .../iTunes/iTunes Media then the library should be portable and can be operated from any path. Hold down shift as you launch iTunes to get an option to choose or create a library, click choose, and browse to the iTunes Library.itl file inside your iTunes folder. Playlists are all stored inside the .itl file. The library consists of the .itl file, some supporting files in the same folder and the album artwork folder, and all media that has attached to the library.
You can't generally save the playlists independently since iTunes records them with absolute paths which may not work if/when you try to reimport. Moving a potable library around as a unit works. See Make a split library portable for background.

Jul 18, 2014 3:11 PM in response to turingtest2by Earnie42,Ok, I'll look at those options.
Any idea if I can Sync from an iPod 7 to the iTunes software on the PC? I'm sure the normal procedure is to Sync from iTunes software program to a hardware device. iPod. Just wondering if I re-install the iTunes program if I can send the playlist configuration from the iPod to iTunes?

Jul 18, 2014 3:32 PM in response to Earnie42by turingtest2,As long as you have your library and media somewhere then it will be possible to connect iTunes to it, and fix any issues with locating files should they arise. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for some details. If you've lost the library & media then the user tip rounds off with a link to a recovery tip.
