Q: Mavericks asks for icloud password everytime on startup

I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2012 model. Ever since I upgraded to mavericks I've had several problems (which mostly include sluggish system and poor performance). The most annoying problem is that on every start-up, I get prompted for my iCloud password. Even though I enter it, it always pops up on every start-up. The other problem with this is that the computer takes a while to start up and won't fully function until that pop up message appears. Is there any way to get rid of this annoying message. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like (in the red box I just covered up my email address).

iMac here, same problem started up about a week ago for me.  Every morning when I start up I'm asked for my iCloud password.  Why?

Also, if I cancel the password request and then go to iCloud in System Settings, it's logged in and running normally, so obviously there was no need to enter my password at the prompt.

    Sounds like bug to me.

What I meant to say in my reply to Braze Blade on July 15,

instead of:  "The message appears only when I have my internet Router turned OFF while I am logging in to the computer...."

it should have been:  "The message appears only when I am not connected to my Router while I am logging in to the computer...".

    Everything else is the same.

    You're welcome, Braze Blade.

Here also an iMac with the same problem.

I suggest you Sign Out of iCloud in System Preferences > iCloud. This should stop iCloud from asking for a password.

By clicking on Log off (Log uit), HELP say: Click this if you no longer want to use  ICloud features

When I click on Log off (Log uit) the following message appear:

If you disable all the documents and information documents stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac.

Your documents are available on other devices using iCloud.

Then it is only possible to Cancel (Annuleer) or my documents will be removed from the Mac (Verwijder van Mac).

    Kind regards.

Not all documents get stored in iCloud. Unless you have specifically setup a folder to store documents in the cloud, only applications like Preview, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, TextEdit and a few limited third party apps have the option to store on the cloud or your computer. Apple only allows apps sold through the Mac App Store use iCloud to store documents.

Have you done a setup as described here? If no, then most of your documents are not affected.  Using iCloud to sync multiple document types.

You can always add sync back and any documents you find that are missing will sync back to your computer.

    @ dianeoforegon,

Yeah, I have noticed what you posted, but it's the pop up window that  appears each time I turn on your Mac.

    Seems like a bug.

    Kind regards.

When you say startup, I'm assuming this is a startup from boot not sleep. Is there anything in Login Items that's connecting to iCloud? If yes, you could try removing then launch after startup so you don't get the password message.

I suggest you report to Apple Feedback so it can be logged and put in the queue to be fixed. The more detailed the report the better. Since it's not happening to everyone, they need details to see what is different that is causing the problem so it can be fixed.

I have the same problem. My Mac mini is regularly in a situation in which it has no Internet connection. It seems like a company as smart as Apple should be able to design an operating system which is smart enough to detect this and not prompt me for an iCloud password.

When that window appears and asks for password and I click "Login" without typing my password then it just disappear and doesn't ask again until the next time I reboot! Isn't that weird o.O

mine (out of the blue) just started playing silly buggers today in the same vain as this. I have the latest updates... and I can type anything at all into the dialog box (don't ask me what I've typed in... just suffice it to say that it's non complementary remarks directed at the poor excuse for a personal computing device) for the icloud & facetime prompts that started popping up today and it will happily go away... for a couple of moments that it before popping up again and making a general nuisance of itself on my desktop staying atop of every other window I'm trying to work within... and wouldn't you know... funnily enough my chosen CC that I use for the app store has just expired... hmmmm... so, I turned off iCloud (only reason I have it on is so I can find it if someone makes off with my MBPro) anyway so no skin off my nose as I'm just waiting for the day that this glorified mp3 player bites the dust so I can then justify replacing this highly attractive but seriously overpriced device, for a real and more useful computing device... better yet... someone can steal the **** thing now and I'll get a new PC based laptop even sooner and I won't even bother try claiming it on my insurance as I'll be only to happy to let it disappear into the either of life or the efin clouds for all I care..!

I had the very same thing

    System Preferences

    iCloud the sign out

It will tell you your files will be deleted, don't worry just proceed

Then sign back in and restart

Fixed it for me and no files lost

Same for me. Started getting on my nerves today after installing Yosemite.

Solved via iCloud log out and logging back in again! No files were deleted, despite warnings.

Verifying + Repairing disk permissions fixed it, on OS X Yosemite.

I have the same issue with Yosemite.

Just upgraded to Yosemite from ML. I am managing six accounts for the family:

    - my account (manager)

    - my wife (normal account)

    - the kids (4 managed -parental control- accounts)

Everyone has an iCloud account. I entered the iCloud informations of everyone at the first login/installation of the Mac in each session.

It works great except for my wife's account:

After a Shutdown/Restart, for her session to login, the Mac prompts for:

    - the iCloud password

    - Agreement of Terms & conditions

    - iCloud Keychain

It seems to finish again - each time- the setup/installation of the Mac.

This does not appear after a logoff/login of the session. Only after a shutdown of the Mac.

Already tried to logout of iCloud in this session, then restart the Mac, then login (during login process of the session) the iCloud password and other questions (see above).

This does not help, after a restart of the Mac, same requests appear.

    Any ideas ?

    Thx in advance,

    Sebastien
