Q: Finder crashes when connecting to server (10.9.4)

I have been having an issue with my Mac Mini the last few days when it tries to connect to my local server.

The first few times I can access the server normally through Finder, but after a few goes Finder freezes (spinning beach ball on finder - other apps work ok) up completely and needs to be restarted. Once it has restarted and I re-open Finder, it freezes up again completely until I restart my computer. The same applies when I try to access the server from other apps (eg. when adding a photo from the server to something in Chrome).

I have reset PRAM, verified/repaired disk, run CCleaner.

Any solutions to this issue?

Might be Finder preferences are corrupted ...

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.

    Restart your Mac.

If that didn't help, apps such as CCleaner do far more harm to your Mac than good. Your Mac runs maintenance in the background for you Mac OS X: About background maintenance tasks

Check for CCleaner uninstall instructions here >  https://www.piriform.com/mac/ccleaner

After you uninstall CCleaner, try connecting to the server.

Thanks for the response Carolyn but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. I have also removed CCleaner.

The server is another Mac Mini. We have another six or so Macs connected to the server. Some running Mavericks.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES â–¹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View â–¹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

A lot of packets are being lost. If the client connects to the network via Ethernet, try a different cable, different switch port, etc.

Yes same issue with another cable.

I was the only user experiencing this issue but another user's computer has begun to show similar symptoms. Her finder is freezing when she tries to access the server.
