Q: Is there a new MacBook Air being released late August?

I am reading on MacRumors and other sites that there may already be new MBA shipping by late August with "new chassis design" and "new chipsets." Is there any truth to this? If so I may wait, but I can get a fairly good deal at Best Buy on a latest gen (Apr 2014) 13/3' MBA base model for $749, with their current $150 sale and a $100 educational discount coupon.

Should I just go with that deal, or will the new MBA update be

1) significant enough to justify buying the new model, probably at a higher price without the sales going on, and/or

2) actually coming in the next month, since I can't wait longer than that due to a dying Dell laptop?

Input appreciated! Thank you.

Apple don't announce new products in advance, and when they do a release date is specified (like Yosemite). No one can give you a definite answer.

Not to mention that speculation about products isn’t permitted here.

Apologies, I was unaware of the restriction on product speculation. I am not a rumor monger or superfan that gets caught up in the minutiae of tech specs, I was just wondering if the next generation of MBA is planned to be a major redesgn or another refresh. I just ran into this with buying a Toyota Sienna a couple months ago and now they've majorly redesigned the interior. This is a similar situation, though, as my car died and I had little choice, and now my laptop is dying and I probably shouldn't wait.

Backup your data before moving to another machine.    Note the return period where you buy the machine.

It is possible that you may have programs that don't work, and may be better served by an older used or refurbished machine.

Remember, you can't run older Mac operating systems on Macs than ship with them.
