Q: Cannot connect to Apple router

We use an Apple router but I'm using a Windows PC. However - even the mac that set up the router can't connect the the router's webpage thingy. The IP is 10.0.1.1, confirmed through AirPort/System Preferences/Windows ipconfig.

Whenever I put 10.0.1.1 into the address bar, the connection times out (on my PC and the mac). I've tried connecting wirelessly as well as wired, and I tried disabling firewall. Nothing works. I've found similar issues for this particular IP on the internet but they were all given vague answers or they were so technical that I couldn't follow along. I need to access the router page to change some things. D:

Thanks,

You made a shocking assumption.. that Apple do things like the rest of the world.. no no no!! Apple march to the beat of their own drum.

There is no HTML web access in the Airport routers.. never has been.. likely never will be.

You always setup airport routers with the airport utility. It is already on your Mac. You can download it for your PC.. although there are some version problems.. the latest airports need v6 utility which is only available on Lion and after on a Mac. There is no PC version yet/ever??

But there is an iOS version you can download for iphone ipad.. which works very well.. often better than the Mac OS one.

So depending on your OS.. open finder and just type in airport utility to the search is the easiest way. Click it to open.. voila.. your airport should be shown.

Some other problems.. on a Mac it may not work unless ipv6 is correctly set to link local only.

    See this apple document.

AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3

There are manuals available as well for all the various models of airport routers.. although some are out of date. In Mavericks OS will you find v6 only works as it should.
