I would be surprised if there are new iSights in Japan or anywhere else.  Apple stopped offering external iSights for sale many years ago.

If the old iSight works, it will work on mavericks or yosemite.

My old iSights work with all current OS X versions, but several users have reported that their newly purchased iSights, even those advertised as NOS, do not work with any Mac.  If you have trouble with your "new" iSight, consider a new, Mac-compatible USB cam instead of spending the money to repair it.

You correctly understand the System requirements for iSight Firmware Updater 1.0.3.  You should not need it.

iSight Firmware Updater 1.0.3 only applies to early iSights that were initially installed before 10.3.7.

The 1.0.3 update allowed iSights used on Macs running Mac OS X 10.3.6 or earlier to be updated for best audio performance when those Macs were updated to Mac OS 10.3.7, 10.3.8, or 10.3.9.  All later Mac OS versions automatically applied the update to when the Mac OS version was installed, so separate update was not required (except in a few rare cases where the Mac OS software had somehow been damaged damaged.)
