Jul 22, 2014 10:04 PM in response to mclarenf1by Sergej Portyannikov,Tried your method with compressor, does not work, the result is the same as in FCPX....No matter what the length of the film, have tried 40 and 120 min
Eroor message the same as in FCPX "There is not enough space on disk to complete the operation" (on target disk is 235Gb free, and 150Gb free on system ssd)
Previously in FCPX

Jul 24, 2014 6:17 AM in response to MyHobbyPaysby Gary Cox1,Exporting to blue ray from Final Cut Pro to a hard drive .img file has a bit different issue for me, it only produces a 6-7 minute video, no errors just a short video only. I can drop that .img into Toast 11 Pro and burn a blu ray and see that it is only 6-7 minutes. This is the same results for me if I share to blu ray from Final Cut Pro rather than get an error like many are experiencing. I'm burning a blu ray from the final cut share but only get 6-7 minutes.
I purchased Toast 11 Pro in hopes of getting something onto blu ray. I was able to export video to Prores and then burn a blu ray in Toast 11 Pro but the maximum bit rate is only 26 mbps and not 30-35mbps which I believe would be higher quality that Final Cut Pro would do if it were able to burn to blu ray?
The quality seems to be ok visually but I'm not sure it is the full quality I would expect if the Final Cut Pro share to blu ray were working.

Jul 24, 2014 7:41 AM in response to Gary Cox1by Ron Bourke,I have found that Toast 11 raises black levels when I have it encode from a mpeg4 file. (I use Avid) To get around this and compressors inability to burn a BR, I am now using compressor to encode the BR to May hard drive and then having Toast burn the BR disc making sure to check "do not re-encode" The results are good.

Jul 24, 2014 11:29 PM in response to MyHobbyPaysby janderson_99,Any progress on this issue? I get the exact error when I attempt to share to blu-ray (disc or hard drive as target). Sharing to an Apple Device in 1080p works fine. However, every time I try sharing with blu-ray as the target, I get the following error: "Either the video file or the audio file were an invalid format".
Just checking back to see if anyone found a fix. Thank you!

Jul 25, 2014 2:36 AM in response to MyHobbyPaysby evdh,Hi,
For the moment I'm still working via Adobe Encore. I don't think Apple likes this (they don't care about Blu-ray), but it's for the moment the only way that works ;-)
But I'm also looking at x264 to convert to H.264 Blu-ray compliant.
Export from FCPX via Compressor to ProRes422 HQ.Run x264 but still no file that can be used with Encore or with other programs.
But if I find a solution, I'll post it... -
Jul 25, 2014 3:23 AM in response to evdhby Daniel Goyette,Apple do care about this and are aware about it also after sending an e-mail to Tim Cook i have received a call from Apple Office in Cupertino.
I my e-mail i talk about the serious of this bug for Pro Users and the Bad Image it give to Apple in the support to Pro Users who need Blu-ray.
They also read this forum and talk about it in the phone call to me on tuesday july 22 , they have now all my console log and system profiler.
You can tell how surprise i was when i receive a long distance call and it was from Apple Head Office in Cupertino and ask for details to test.
Tim Cook do read e-mail with his team of course , it was only a few hors after my e-mail the phone call reach me (send your console log).

Jul 25, 2014 3:38 AM in response to Daniel Goyetteby mclarenf1,Apple engineering has gone so far as to send me a hard drive to copy over the ProRes file I am trying to get out to Blu Ray. So this is pretty serious to them. I really think they should leave the previous version of software up on the app store for people to downgrade if they have problems. It's pretty short sighted to assume that the upgrade you supply THE WORLD is going to be bullet proof perfect. One thing I hope Tim changes is putting a little more effort into current tech like Blu Ray, instead of leaving it in the dumpster saying 'it's a world of hurt.' So is getting the iphone to china but that didn't stop you. I'm kind of tired sitting in the Apple's future, waiting for the puck to get here, you know?

Jul 25, 2014 6:20 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby evdh,Yes, Adobe encore can use the ProResHQ file, but the quality from Compressor was better. For the moment that's my workflow and it works just fine..
That's why I want to use x264 to generate the .264 file. But for the moment Adobe Encore want to Transcode the .264 file generated by x264.
When I created the .264 file via Compressor it was not Transcoded by Adobe Encore. But for the moment Compressor doen't want to create good/correct .264 files.
So I'm still reading forums to find out how to generate a good .264 via x264 that is accepted by Adobe Encore and is not Transcoded again by Adobe Encore.I still hope that Apple delivers us a good Blu-ray authoring software, like DVD Studio PRO.

Jul 25, 2014 6:24 AM in response to Tom Wolskyby films4pod,We have had success creating a BD by taking a ProRes master file to Encore. I can also take it to Toast as long as it is set to encode an MPEG-2 and not H.264. Using the maximum data rate with MPEG-2, created a file size of 20.83 GB for a 01:40:00 program. It looks and plays fine.

Jul 25, 2014 3:57 PM in response to films4podby Gary Cox1,How are you getting an option of MPEG-2 or H.264 in Toast? I just purchased Toast 11 Pro in order to get some sort of blu ray burning going. I only have an option of MPEG-4 AVC and MPEG-2. The MPEG-4 AVC encoding works and I can burn a blu ray disk although I'm not sure the quality is what I was getting out of Final Cut and Compressor.
thanks... Gary

Jul 25, 2014 4:11 PM in response to Gary Cox1by films4pod,Toast 11.2 on the Mac. Setup for VIDEO > Blu-ray Video
Select Customize in right column
Select Custom button
Select Encoding tab
Set Video Format to MPEG-2
I used average bit rate at 23.5 Mbps and max at 26 Mbps and was happy with the quality on a 1:40:00 program which created a 20Gb disk image.

Jul 25, 2014 10:03 PM in response to t1kby SirHaakon,I have a very similar situation to the one you described and would like to contact you for more information about your workaround. I am ripping my hair out trying to get this sorted. Is there a way to send you a message through this system? Thanks very much in advance.

Jul 25, 2014 10:55 PM in response to SirHaakonby t1k,@SirHaakon - If you're referring to my Jul 20, 2014 8:55 AM post, all I can tell you is that I'm now on my 7th successful project Sharing to Blu-ray HDD image each time. After editing in FCP-X I share to ProRes 422 MASTER file, then launch Compressor v4.1.1 from my desktop (where I put it) and create a Blu-ray HDD image. I use Disk Utility to burn the image to a BD RE (to confirm quality & navigation in a Blu-Ray disc player) and if all's well burn it to a BDR disc for distribution. The first time I tried this it seemed to hang right before CreateDisc was called, and that's when I remembered someone* discovering toggling "Background: Add..." fixes that. It's been working perfectly ever since.
