Q: Blu-Ray burning error after Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 update.

I upgraded Final Cut Pro X to 10.1.2  I can no longer burn blu-ray.  I get an error message "Either the video file or the audio file were an invalid format".  I get the same message sharing through Final Cut or through Compressor.  Please help!

That's lovely, but Apple doesn't make 4.1.1 available for download anywhere...

Correct. So you'll have to temporarily copy it from one of your other Mac's that still has it, or (presuming you had Compressor 4.1.1 before) retrograde your Mac using Time Capsule + copy it to a USB stick or EXT HDD, then restore your Mac to its latest state and drag 'n drop it from USB stick or HDD onto your desktop (don't put it in your Apps folder). On first launch, toggle "Background Add..."

I appreciate your timely responses.  Unfortunately all of the Macs I own that have Compressor on them have already been updated to 4.1.2, and I don't use Time Machine.  I am absolutely a paying customer of the software, but old versions of Apple's apps just get overwritten and there is no just "go to another one of your Macs and grab it."

You could take a spare drive and make it a bootable disk.

This doc explains how to get the most recent version of an app that is compatible with Mountain Lion. That OS is still available @ $20.

You should then be able to install 10.0.9 and 4.0.7, which may have had their own set of issues, but I don't recall Blu Ray as being one of them.

Another example of why TM, CCC, et al are a really good idea.

If you bought it with your Apple ID, you should be able to install it on several machines (five I believe) using your ID. As for copying apps you own, there are tutorials that explain how to and forums that share individual experiences using different methods (whole partitions vrs. individual apps vrs. network fileshare copying, etc). But if you don't have Compressor v4.1.1 on another mac or a backup then you'll probably just have to wait for Apple to fix this issue, which I suspect will be very soon.

I have send extra Console Log to Apple Support Team who have contact me last week about the following test.

The results are not good at all and will impact many creators of Blu-ray disc , please after read and forward to the appropriate team at Apple.

1-Inserting a BD-RE Blu-ray disc created by Compressor and lauching Apple Disk Utility and try to erase-it with crash Disk Utility all the time.

2-nserting a BD-RE Blu-ray disc created by Compressor and lauching Toast Titanium and try to erase-it with Toast will fail (Disc in use …..).

3-Eject the dis created with Apple Compressor require to shutdown the computer and pressing eject key while restarting the computer ……

Any Blu-ray disc created with Toast can be ejected or erease without problem .........

Thanks, Russ.  That is very helpful.  This problem has existed for over a month, so advice like "you probably just have to wait around for Apple to fix it... should be soon," neither solves my problem nor is very likely.  I have a pretty strict deadline for this project and the current version of Compressor is basically useless for me.  I am pretty confident that if I can just get ahold of 4.1.1 (or even 4.0.7 - is that the only version the App store will let you download with Mountain Lion?), then I will be okay.  I don't know why Apple won't just let us download previous versions of the software... I get that they want everyone to just be current, but when the newest versions don't work, it creates a huge problem.

I back up all of my important data of course, but not with Time Machine.  I rarely ever need to recall a previous version of the app itself.

Thanks again, I have renewed hope for my situation!

Yes. That was the latest version of Compressor that will work with 10.8. And 10.0.9 was the latest version of FCP X.

The problem have been reproduce and identified at Apple  and they are working on a fix but no exact release time is available at the moment so waiting is the only option and those like me have a spar tire using Toast Titanium 11.

Just wanted to follow up and say thank you for your help... I did pretty much exactly all of the steps you outlined (made a bootable disk, installed Mountain Lion, grabbed 4.0.7 from the app store), and it rendered my project perfectly on the first try.  I had previously called Apple support about the issue (before I saw the forums) and spent a good 3 hours with them trying to figure it out; they actually concluded themselves that it was 4.1.2 that was the culprit, but refused to give me a previous version to download.  I know bugs happen, but when they do, a solution needs to be provided - especially considering there was such a simple one.  Glad everything is working now, but what a pain... and I can't say I appreciate the way Apple is dealing with it.  Anyway, thanks a bunch... it is greatly appreciated.

I understand the frustration of all peoples trap by the bug and dont have a safety net like i have with Toast 11.

I can only repeat infos give to me by Apple from a contact at Cupertino after having received my system infos.

The problem have been reproduce and identified at Apple and they are working on a fix no release time is available.

Like all of you i would prefer a fix like yesterday but i know it will not happen , just feel lucky i still have Toast 11.

Posting here is great and help each others but also send Apple feedback also add to the pressure to fix-it soon.

I assemble all of my content in Encore and then burn with Toast, but regardless of your preferred method, you still have to make the Blu-ray compliant H.264 file first (well, you could have Toast create one for you, but their engine is awful and nowhere near acceptable quality for the kinds of projects I am doing).  The current version of Compressor cannot complete H.264 renders in the Blu-ray profile, whether you want to burn "direct to disc" from Compressor, from within Toast, from within Encore, or anything else: this is the problem.  If you still have 4.1.1, hold onto it for dear life - or if not, you can get 4.0.7 using the methods previously described.  Who knows when Apple will address this.

Your are among the most lucky ones ; i have try to copy and paste Compressor 4.1.1 after deleting Compressor 4.1.2 but it still fail.

Toast refuse to burn a Blu-ray  to a BD-RE done with Compressor before ... cant  even do an erase with Toast or Apple Disck Utility.

Toast will say the disc seem in use and Apple Disk Utility will crash , but will erase any other BD-RE not touch by Compressor 4.1.2.

Toast 11 is my only working option right now even with limitation but at the same time have to wait Apple Fix of Compressor  soon.

I am in a 30 days Time Frame before next contract but like you found each passing day getting more nervous Apple We Are Waiting.

I am now encoding using Compressor and then burning BR discs using Toast Titanium with excellent results. Far better looking image than discs encoded in Toast. (Toast encoded discs tend to mess with black levels.)  Plus it's quite easy to burn multiple discs in Toast.   Since I already own Toast I think I will probably stick with this workflow.

Can you explain how to do all the  process please?

I am just desperate trying to mage BD and now I can't.

    I have Toast Titanium 11

Can somebody tell me how can I burn a Blu-Ray using the Toast Titanium 11?

I have many 2 Hour projects done and waiting to make them into Blu-Ray.

I am using Final Cut Pro X  10.1.2

    Mac Pro X  10.9.4  2009

Do I have to use Compressor (4.1.2) or I can just burn the Blu-rays using FCP 10 ??

    Thanks for all answers
