Q: Itunes freezes when I connect my 4th generation ipod

I plug in my ipod and itunes immediately freezes (program not responding)

I have checked using my 4th Generation ipod that it's software is up to date (running 6.1.6) and have done the same with itunes (11.3) Thoughts?

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.6

I'm working on a MacBook Pro, will these solutions still work? I am able to link iphoto and transfer photos without any issue.

You can try trashing iTunes and redownloading/installing it.
I would also repairing the startup disk

I appreciate you helping, looking at another forum it looks like a problem with Maverick (which is what I am currently running). With Maverick it does not seem that I can trash it, dialogue box pops up saying that it can not move itunes to trash because OSX requires itunes in order to run.

UPDATE:
After seeing the spinning wheel of death continue for about an hour it is now syncing! It seems that what others have mentioned re: Maverick are correct. Advice to others, just wait and it seems to work itself out.

Day 2 Update:

It appeared to be working yesterday, it froze in mid sync and now today it will not sync no matter how long I wait...

I know you use an Apple computer so it may work differently, however I had the same issue yesterday with my PC. iTunes froze every time I connected my iPod touch 5th gen, to fix this I had to kill the session and restart my computer. It now works fine, not sure what was going on before the restart.
