I even tryed to remove the /Users/coolfx/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder (i read that on forum elsewhere) and it didnt fix the problem.

What the **** is happening?

I had the same config as you (Google Contact Sync, no iCloud contact sync) and had the same no-sleep issue.

Turning on iCloud Contact Sync fixed it for some reason.  I realize you may not WANT them to sync, but it may be worth trying just to see if it solves the problem, then take it from there.

You could try enabling syncing of iCloud contacts. Just to see, if the problem goes away.

It may not be, what you prefer, but if it solves the problem, it may be better than the current state of things.

Try. Test. Decide. And tell us, what happens in your case.

    Regards

I turned on icloud sync in contacts and added a contact. Addressbooksync disappeared from the activity monitor for now and pmset shows nothing preventing idle sleep when I am running contacts. But as soon as I shut down contacts, it returns. I don't think I should need contacts to run just to get the iMac to sleep.

Hm...you sure you need to leave Contacts running?  You probably don't even need a contact in there...I had none.  I just had to check on "Contacts" in the iCloud control panel.

Also, the Addressbooksync runs every time my computer wakes from sleep...but after 10 seconds or so it finishes and allows sleep again.  Maybe you need to give it a little more time?

I agree with you, but until Apple comes up with a working solution, you'll have to decide, if you'll use a workaround, that seems to work (at least in some cases). Whatever the cause.

It seems that I have figured out the cause for my Mac Pro's sleep issue! I have spent the last 2 months trying various things I read on the forum. But none of them worked until I tried the following.

I think the "Spotlight" software is the problem. It tries to index the external HDs and keeps the Mac Pro awake. My external HDs are from OWC and they seem to enter sleep mode quickly. Then Spotlight has problems with the sleeping external HDs, according to the hypothesis. So I excluded the external HDs from the search. My Mac Pro has been able to enter sleep mode reliably for the last 6 days! In the past, I thought I might have found the cause and walkaround. But the problem came back in 2 to 3 days. Hopefully, this really addresses the sleep problems.

What I did was to use System Preference and then pick Spotlight. Then under the "Privacy" tab, add my 2 external HDs on the list so that Spotlight does not use them. It works for me for the last 6 days!! YMMV though....

Hello.  Thanks to this discussion I was led to "pmset -g assertions" and Address Book Source Sync as the cause of my MacBook failing to sleep.  Here is how I fixed it.  Open Terminal and run this command:

         launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.AddressBook.SourceSync.plist

This command adds a "Disabled" entry in /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.USERID/overrides.plist, where USERID is your user ID. So, I believe you'll have to run this command for all user accounts that are experiencing the problem.  I do not use iCloud or syncing of any kind. This change would probably mess those things up if you are using them. To undo, this should work:

         launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.AddressBook.SourceSync.plist

No luck. Of course, I'm running Yosemite now.

Will keep searching for a cure.

Thanks! I've been hitting my head against a wall for months on this issue and this fixed it (Yosemite though).
