Q: What is XPCD which spams my logs in Console?

Hi,

I keep on getting the following logs in Console:

2014-05-13 5:24:01.130 PM xpcd[215]: Info.plist does not contain an XPCService dictionary: /System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/XPCServices/SecurityAgent.xpc

I have strolled the internet and could not find anything that would tell me how to stop this error spamming me.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

    Arg - sorry about that. My xpcd issues haven't come back yet - could you post the contents of this file? /System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/XPCServices/SecurityAgent.xpc/Cont ents/Info.plist

    Gave up and reinstalled OSX and 10.9.4 combo both from downloaded installer files.  Waiting to see if that comes back.

    Seeing the same log entries I decided to try your suggested changes, after backing up.  Copied the orig file to the desktop, created the new, ran a diff to see that they were the same, except for the new changes you suggested.

    <key>XPCService</key>

    <dict>

        <key>ServiceType</key>

        <string>System</string>

    </dict>

    I now no longer see the log entries for the xpcd: Info.plist does not contain an XPCService dictionary: System/Library/Frameworks/Security.framework/XPCServices/SecurityAgent.xpc

    Thank you.

    Cache cleaners such as Onyx delete the xpchelper cache but do not rebuild it, which results with the event log entry in question.  The following unix command, however, easily rebuilds the cache.  Check it out with the --help argument first.

    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache

    I suspect tools such as Mavericks Cache Cleaner simply execute this command.  I ran it, rebooted, and saw no more log entries.

    Regards,

    Ira
