Jul 30, 2014 1:54 PM in response to lpotter1by ericstapf,I came to this forum to find out if the feature that prevents someone from using my iphone works. Glad to see my lost phone is probably a brick. Its just part of the conversation dude. There's this book called confederacy of dunces that is about this character who takes pleasure in shunning people. you sound like him. good book. I rest my condescending opinion.

Jul 30, 2014 1:57 PM in response to lpotter1by Joe6,Hey Ipotter, it's ok, you can relax.
It's obvious Philly_P is not aware of the new change that none of us saw coming.
Probably has not heard of 'iCloud-Locked' and does not realize how many people it's screwed over.
The REAL finger-pointing should go towards Apple imo, because, they implemented this new anti-theft system that doesn't actually stop a phone from getting stolen, and does not help victims retrieve the phone.

Jul 30, 2014 1:59 PM in response to ericstapfby Joe6,It's not a brick, unless you remotely access it and brick it. It's just locked with no way of locating the actual owner.
People sell them 'for parts only' on Ebay now.
It's like creating an anti-theft product that turns stolen diamond necklaces into gold.

Jul 30, 2014 2:04 PM in response to Joe6by ericstapf, man that stinks. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I guess I'm still happy if it can't just be used (as my phone), but I do see how this helps Apple more than it helps me.

I'm well aware of it. My several devices are locked in that manner. That ensures that NO ONE can use my devices unless it meets with MY approval. Why does that concept bother you?

Actually, it does. By ensuring that a stolen device is useless, thieves don't have much of an incentive to steal them. Of course, it doesn't stop the dumb thieves.

Jul 30, 2014 2:10 PM in response to Philly_Phanby Joe6,If you are asking why the school can't fix it, it's because that all these years, if an iDevice got locked, you just reset it to factory default and start it up like a new phone.
This past update, Apple fixed it so that if you reset it to factory defaults, or ANY thing else, it will turn on like new and say 'this device is registered to 'J**********@gmail.com', and you can't get further.
Last year, nobody knew this was going to happen, so it's never been an issue in the past.

Anything else you have to say?
Only that I do hope you never come to work at the IT department at my company. We like to have IT people who stay up-to-date in their field. And no, that is not being "snide". It is an honest and fervent hope.
Best of luck.

Unlocking is simple. Contact 'J**********@gmail.com, who is presumably a school employee and, if not, is someone that the school can locate.

I'd buy a new one. What would you do?

Jul 30, 2014 2:14 PM in response to Joe6by lpotter1,I read a lot of information in forums, and of all of the thousands of posts that I have read, this one rubbed me raw the most.
I have a huge problem with how people that aren't "technically inclined" are treated and there are people posting for help here, that did nothing wrong, and were treated in an absolutely, unacceptable manner. Seriously, they reached out for help and were treated like imbeciles. There is no excuse for this. Being a keyboard pirate, saying whatever you want, because you are secreted away behind the doors of your house, makes you cowardly. I doubt these people would ever talk this way in person to these people looking for help like they have here!!!
In all the years I have worked in technology, I have never posted, until today. This should show my level of disgust.

Why are you disgusted when the only recommendation has been to contact the owner of the device?

Jul 30, 2014 2:15 PM in response to Philly_Phanby lpotter1,YOU, YOU, YOU ... The device I am holding in the property of MY COMPANY, not YOU, not anyone else. YOU wanting to "feel" secure have made companies like mine take a massive hit. And you aren't even more secure!
