Q: Kernal Panic or hardware problem?

I leave my MacBook Pro laptop (version 10.6.8) on almost all day, but I have the computer closed sometimes during the day. Just about everyday my computer screen goes black and freezes so I have to hold the power button down to turn off my computer and restart it. How can I tell if this is a Kernel Panic or hardware problem? If it is either, does it mean my computer is in bad shape? And how can it be fixed?

The fact that your computer freezes everyday means that something is not right. It could be a software program or utility you are using. It could be caused by a corrupted file somewhere on the computer such as a bad cache file or bad preference file, for example.

You have one of these MBPs that has a history of GPU issues:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088

Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.

    Ciao.

My technical support has expired. Do you know how much Apple charges for an appointment? Would anything Apple does to fix this issue delete any of my saved files? I don't have time to back all my files up at the moment.

Could this cause my computer to crash? Also, when I logged onto my Administrator account, I received the message shown in inserted image. When I clicked to see the report, I accidentally pressed ESC so I couldn't copy and paste the report. When I re-logged in, the message didn't reappear.

Apple store genius bar appointments are FREE.  Any repairs though are not free.  At the very least you will know what the issue is with your MBP.

Apple does have a policy that they are not responsible for user data thus a backup is in your best interest.

Yes, it could be responsible for a crash.  If a crash occurs again, then try to get the crash information.

    Ciao.

You have installed the adware rootkit known as Genieo.  To remove all currently known adware use TheSafeMac's Adware Removal Tool or follow his manual instructions for removing it.
