Jul 30, 2014 9:05 PM in response to vazandrewby jlsimpson80,No. I tried the reset I read on here - holding the menu and right button for 6 seconds. But I didn't change the battery. When I tried doing the reset it did cause the light to flash on the Apple TV.

Try unpairing holding menu and left arrow for 6 seconds.
If that doesn't help the things I'd suggest would be:
1 - using ethernet not wifi if you can, if that doesn't help
2 - Restore AppleTV to factory settings and latest software using iTunes and a USB to microUSB cable:

3 - if remote still doesn't work after 2 and you have a recent iPhone try setting up the restores appleTV with the iPhone:
